AFTER a year’s hiatus, the iconic BIP Fontainebleau returned in style and with a warm welcome for both CSIP/CSYP competitors and national entries. Among those making the journey were a strong group of Irish riders including Jack Hannigan (CSIP), Hazel Walsh, Lexie Treacy, Holly Treacy, Emma O’Meara, Abbey Murphy, Jessica Milmo Penny, Marykate Carroll, Olivia Carroll, and Aoife Lawton.
Deirdre Seale, who approached the organisers in partnership with Showjumping Ireland back in November 2024, worked closely with the BIP team to secure entries and pony registrations for the Irish contingent.
“We always get such a warm welcome from both the venue and the French riders, this show is one of Seale Transport’s favourites because it gives every child a chance to experience jumping abroad even outside of the FEI circuit,” Deirdre said. “Our thanks to the collaborative efforts of SJI and the show director, ponies without FEI measurements were still able to compete making the trip even more inclusive and valuable.”
Melvyn Kennedy, Chairman of the SJI National Pony Committee, added: “SJI were delighted to send out the contingent and there is a long friendship between Showjumping Ireland and BIP Fontainebleau. This gives our younger riders invaluable experience. To jump at a world-class venue where some of the world’s best riders competed only a week before is a fantastic opportunity. Our thanks to the BIP for the opportunity and we look forward to 2026!”
Among the standout performers was Jack Hannigan, who competed in the CSIP classes with three talented Connemara ponies: Paul’s Bobby, Knockbridge Morning Shadow, and Carstown Bobby Sparrow. This marked his second trip to Fontainebleau and his parents, Joanne and Philip Hannigan, were full of praise for the event.
“It’s a show for everyone and the team spirit was really lovely. We brought novice ponies out for the national classes in 2023 and two of those ponies competed in the CSIP classes this year.”
Held over four days at one of France’s most prestigious venues, the event offered technical courses across multiple arenas. Riders had the chance to sharpen their skills and use the show as ideal preparation for upcoming RDS qualifiers.
Irish riders were consistently in the ribbons. Abbey Murphy delivered standout performances in the 138cm classes, while Lexie Treacy had a fantastic week with Newline Lucky Lui, securing second, third, fourth and sixth placings in the 1.10m classes, and a ninth-place finish in the 1.15m Grand Prix. She also placed fifth with Dolly Ice de Bregeon.
Holly Treacy impressed with Brock Blizzard, winning both the 90cm and 95cm Grand Prix classes, as well as another 90cm win. Aoife Lawton also made her mark with a sixth-place finish in the 148cm 1m class. Emma O’Meara riding Ellie Murphy took two 148cm Grand Prix wins and a placing over the four days, a great International debut.
With glorious weather, world-class sport, and a vibrant festival atmosphere, the trip was not just a sporting highlight, but a memorable experience for all involved.
