TWO-TIME Dublin winner Patrickswell Sherry has been sold to a European buyer following his impressive win in the performance Irish Draught class for six-year-olds and over on Wednesday at the RDS.

This horse was reserve in 2022 as a four-year-old with owner JJ Bowe’s daughter Correna and, in 2024, the same pair won the six-year-old and over performance Irish Draught class. On Wednesday, with son Michael Bowe in the saddle, the stunning grey won the same class again after a year away from Dublin. The eight-year-old is by Cappa Amadeus out of a Castana mare and was bred by Noel Sheridan.

Speaking to The Irish Field after his win, Michael said: “We’ve had him since a three-year-old, he competed here as a four, five and six-year-old and won as six with my sister in this very class. He got a year off last year and then this is my first year in Dublin and I got to have the ride on him. For luck, it all went to plan! The flatwork and the jumping went perfect, he always tries his best... We are very happy with him.”

Bowe confirmed the sale had been finalised prior to Dublin and that the lucky purchaser had been trying to acquire him since seeing him as a four-year-old.

“My dad told them he wanted to keep him a bit longer for my sister and then when she won at Dublin they tried to buy him again, but he said he wanted to keep him then for me for when I was old enough to compete. We understand she plans to use him for hunting and other amateur riding.”

Bowe was also thrilled to confirm that the winner of the loose jumping three-year-old filly class on Thursday, which he led up for owner and breeder Sean Stafford, had also sold. This filly is Ballyv Rosie by Chacoon Blue x Luidam and was sold to Ethen Ahearne and Mikey and Annemarie Pender.

“They saw her at the qualifier and then came to see her jump at home and then, once she passed the vet, the deal was done and we were thrilled. I produced her myself from wild in the field in April to winning at Dublin, so it’s unbelievable!

“The whole week has just been amazing, to win twice at Dublin is amazing, but to have that in my first year here is just an unbelievable feeling. You’d fantasise about things like this happening, but you’d never actually think it could. Maybe I’ve set the bar too high now for next year, but we’ll keep trying anyway!”
