MONDAY at Mullingar saw a host of national finals take place. Taking centre stage early in the morning was the 1.10m Derravarra Championship. Sponsored by Francis Derwin, the final was worth €3,000. Taking this win and almost €1,000 in prize money was Amateur rider Lorraine Younge (AA) when she was the fastest of 11 double clears aboard her prolific winner Belfieldflight in a time of 33.59 seconds. Younge also claimed fifth place with Little Miss Russel (36.77).

She was chased home by Children on Horses rider Charlotte Butler aboard the Olwyn Alexander-owned Kingston King in a time of 34.28. Slotting into third place was Jessica Lee and Harry Beau Bay in a time of 35.89.

Claiming victory in the Shortall International Transport-sponsored 1.10m Lake County Ladies Championship was junior rider Edie Codd and Hdi Restless when they were the fastest of six double clears in 35.71. Amateur rider Tara Elizabeth Patton (AA) and Castleroche Pretty Women took the runner-up spot in a time of 38.10. Emily Moloney finished third with Cruicerath Flexianna (38.55).

Sponsored by Jim Derwin, 33 combinations lined out to contest the €3,000 1.20m Midland Classic Championship. Leading this Championship when clear in 30.50 seconds was Brendan Murphy and Abs Misty. Owned and bred by Sean Mulkern, the eight-year-old mare is by Tyson out of the Clover Brigade mare Minnie Clover.

Young rider Millie McNaughton and Ship Shape took the runner-up spot when they came home clear in 31.08. A clear from Barry McCormack and the eight-year-old Ludo’s Promise in 32.26 secured them third place.

The pressure was on as 32 finalists contesting the Duffy Financial Advisors Lilliput 1m Championship. As expected, the class went down to the wire with six double clears. Claiming this year’s title was Vicki Sherwood and V. Postbaans Quickalme when they galloped home in 37.95.

Children On Horses Rider Nina Smith and Lv Derena Double Sixes took the runner-up spot when she was almost five seconds slower in 43.18. Amateur rider Paul Whelan (A) and the six-year-old Fortside Definitely took third, when clocking 44.49.

Taking the win in the Dorothy O’Keeffe and Family Amateur Championship was Aoife Maguire (A) and Pharos Hazy Cove when they were fastest of just five double clears in 35.80. Kate Murray (A) and Crynolisk Feisty Blue were fractions behind in 35.62 for second. Third place was Aoileann Nic An Iomaire (AA) and Kingsday Eurohill in 36.05.
