SATURDAY was a good day for the Hughes Bravo stable when two of their riders, Mikey Pender and Molly Hughes Bravo, took first and second place in the feature Stephex Horsetrucks 1.40m speed.

Riding the home-bred HHS Fortune (Catoki x Douglas), Pender secured the win in a time of 53.57, while Hughes Bravo and another home-bred, HHS Mercedes (Can Ya Makan x Couletto) were runners-up in 55.72.

MHS Jersey Girl (Cardento 933 x Quidam Junior), ridden by Conor Brennan for owner and breeder Sinead Brennan, finished in third in 57.25. CW Luiboutain (Luidam x Captain Clover), bred by Patrick McGarry and owned by Tara Brandon, took fourth place with Katie Nallon in the saddle in 57.25.

Jonathan Smyth and Mulvin Lights Out (Kroongraaf x Diamond Serpent), bred by James Hughes and owned by Roy Craig and Noletta Smyth, slotted into fifth, while Pender collected another placing when he and his mother Ann Marie’s home-bred Madgeslane Louis (Luidam x OBOS Quality) were sixth.

Gaston win

Caroline Gaston and her own eight-year-old mare Miss Roman Cora (Koro D’Or x Romanov), bred by Pauric B Goonan, took the top spot in Saturday’s 1.20m speed, breaking the beams in 53.18.

Cathal Daniels and Margaret Kinsella’s multiple medal-winning eventer Rioghan Rua were runners-up in 53.27. Dylan Ward and Quality Sport Horses’ Dutch-bred Kruser finished in third, while Sven Hadley rode his own Maximum Numero Too (Aganix du Seigneur x Numero Uno), bred by Eamon McArdle, into fourth.

Fifth went to Pat Sheahan Jnr riding his home-bred Coille Mor Q (OBOS Quality 004 x Coille Mor Hill Dam), while Dylan Ward and his second mount, the stallion Lagans Candy Boy (Sligo Candy Boy x Quick Star), bred by Peter Rice, were sixth.
