THE four-year-old Championship at Mullingar saw 24 qualified combinations go to post on Saturday in a bid to lay their claim to the €750 prize fund. Taking the win was Olive Clarke on the Ivor Broderick-owned KMS Rozemarijn when they were awarded a score of 117 marks by judges Dot Love and David Harrison. This mare is by Carrera Vdl out of the Baltic VDL-sired Klavertje.
Speaking afterwards, Clarke said: “I am delighted with the win she is a super scopey mare. She was broken by Paul Lynch and we did a bit with her at the start of the year and let her off for a break. She hasn’t much mileage and we had contemplated doing the RDS qualifiers but decided not to rush her. Mullingar was the perfect opportunity to get her out and it went our way.
"She is a talented mare and we are conscious not to rush her. She has plenty of scope and a lot of blood and ticks all the boxes”.
Finishing in second place on a score of 111.5 was Tom Foley on the Williams Sport Horses-owned Glc Mr President. Bred by Gareth Cassidy, the gelding is by Conthargos and is out of Mullentine Good Friday.
James Derwin and the KWPN gelding Ruben took third place on a score of 110.5. Owned by Jim Derwin, he is by Grandorado Tn and out of the Bugatti Vdl-sired Funalocia.
It was a good visit for Rachel Proudley as she took fourth place with Shannen Howley’s Dooneens Cornet Cruise on a score of 109. Bred by her mum Pauline, this home-bred gelding is by HHS Cornet out of the Ard VDL Douglas-sired Doughlas Cruise Line.
Donal Hayes took fifth place with his own Emerald Van’t Ruytersho-sired gelding Lismakeera Emerald Action on a score of 107.1. He is out of the Boherdeal Clover dam Diamond Society Clover.
Judges left very little between the next placing as Dundrum Candy Cruise, partnered by Joyce Veld, was awarded 107 marks for sixth place. This gelding was bred by David Hamilton by Sligo Candy Boy out of the Night Cruise mare Dundrum Winter Cruise.
