FRIDAY afternoon at Millstreet International Horse Show saw 76 combinations line out for the CSI2* Connolly’s Red Mills 1.45m Millstreet Masters Grand Prix qualifier.
From the original starters, 14 booked their place in the second round where six went clear. Taking the win was Max Foley riding Hugh McOwan’s Illusion De Hus in 37.26. Jack Ryan and DSH Lucky Junior took the runner-up spot, when they stopped the clock in 37.82.
Cathal Daniels and Like a Star took third, when they clocked 40.97. Accounting for eventual fourth was Francis Connors and Carrigshawn Vendi Royal in 42.05. A clear in 45.26 for Isabel O’Brien and Starfield Brighteye saw them secure fifth. Completing the top six was Molly Hughes Bravo and Mercedes-Benz HHS Arezzo, clear in 47.36.
Hadley win
The Bramhams Horse Transport and Shipping Agent 1.25m Table C in Arena 1 on Friday saw 34 go to post and Galway’s speed merchant Sven Hadley took this win. Riding Maximum Numero Too HSH, he stopped the clock in 61.76. Hadley’s closest rival was John Mulligan and Kathleens Candy Clover, who came home in 61.91, ahead of Jenny Connors and Fortnight in 63.89.
Sean Dooley and Indie Girl took fourth (64.38). Hadley took another share of the prize fund when clocking 64.61 with HSH Harper Du Seigneur for fifth. Rounding off the top six was Lily Slattery and Captain Candy Man in 64.92.
On a winning roll, Sven Hadley also led the victory lap in The Underwriting Exchange 1.30m Table A on Friday with Maximum Numero Too HSH. It was an extremely close class, with the top three coming home within 60 seconds. Hadley’s winning time of 58.43 seconds was chased home by Francis Connors and Martello Chapella (58.78).
Third place was filled by Robert Harrison and CES Wicked Contender in 59.67. Accounting for fourth place was Emma O’Dwyer and Cornetto Denfer (60.59), ahead of Victoria Clarke on Cherry Candy Girl (62.44).
