MIKEY Pender’s mare Cushlas Killanca was named the four-year-old Champion at the Irish Breeders’ Classic in Barnadown last Sunday morning. By Kassander Vant Roosakker out of Kilanca Sep (Vittorio), she was ridden to victory by David Moran.
Judges Dave Quigley and Greg Broderick had the difficult job of selecting from the 25 starters, who had qualified from the three classes held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the show.
Moran scored a massive 171.76 points to earn the top spot in the €5,000 ORHRE-sponsored class.
Runner-up, by the slightest of margins, was Abigail Boland riding her own mare Elma Bo (Shs Soco Blue x Hernandez Tn Nop), bred by Jack Ryan, on 171.75 marks. Third place went to Gabriel Slattery Jr’s stallion CSF Castlelawn Emerald (Emerald Van’T Ruytershof x Voltaire), who was bred by Patrick Connolly, with a score of 169.
Abigail Boland and her second mount, her own mare Silverteal Mellow (Satisfaction x Lux Z), bred by Pascal McCarthy, was awarded 167 for fourth place. Catherine Thornton rode her own Paul Dillon-bred mare Drumiller Supreme (Pegase Van’t Ruytershof x Arko Iii) into fifth with a score of 165.
The mare Zarona (Dallas Vdl x Harona) owned, ridden and bred by Zoe Mehigan completed the line up in sixth place with 163 points.
