ON Saturday at the Irish Breeders’ Classic, hosted at Barnadown, 60 combinations went to post in the five- and six-year-old Irish Breeders’ Classic consolation final, sponsored to the tune of €5,000 by Abbey Upholstery and Keatingstown House Stud. This two-phase special class saw 60 go to post and, of those, 15 maintained clean sheets.

Taking the win was Shane Dalton aboard Gerald Kilbride’s six-year-old Larina Cruise, when they crossed the line in 29.75 seconds. This was the second good result for this pairing, as they won the six-year-old Championship second qualifier on Friday. Larina Cruise was bred by Michael Kenny by Lock Cruise out of the Tabasco Van Erpekom-sired dam Kennystown Cross.

The runner-up place was filled by Dylan Ward and the six-year-old Lagans Candy Boy when they crossed the line in 31.20. Owned by Quality Sport Horses and bred by Peter Rice, this stallion is by Sligo Candy Boy out of the Quick Star mare Lagans Star.

Robyn Moran accounted for third and fourth place in this line-up. Moran delivered her best result with the six-year-old Clever Quay, stopping the clock in 32.08, and fourth place with Kilbrackan Stakatto, clear in 32.26. The six-year-old gelding Clever Quay (Orestus x Lux Z) is owned by Brian O’Malley. Kilbrackan Stakatto is a five-year-old mare by Stakkato Gold and is out of the Elvis Ter Putte mare Chambery De La Pomme, and owned by Fortside Farms.

A clear from young rider Aaron Costello with the six-year-old Parc Violeta (Kannan x Emilion), home-bred by owners Williams Sport Horses, in 32.41 saw him secured fifth. Gemma Phelan rounded up the top six with Thomas Quigley’s six-year-old Lance Corporal (Corporal VDL x Jai Ho), bred by Louise Thompson, in 32.81.
