TWO TRI Equestrian Interschools events were held over the Bank Holiday weekend. On Sunday, Ballynonty Equestrian hosted its inaugural Interschools event which was well supported by local schools and others.
The TRI Equestrian open team event was won in fine style by Ursuline Secondary Schools Thurles. Evie Kennedy on Max Jumping Joy, Charlotte Roe riding Silver Grog, Emily Gleason on Illaunarra Luska and Katie Coonan with Hilltown Quality Cruise made up the Ursuline team.
The runner-up slot went to St Declan’s Community College represented by Kinlough Lad and Mia O’Donnell, Judi Kaboom and Fionn O’Donnell, Court Ownooras Girl ridden by Clodagh Dunne and Benji and Tom O’Donnell, whilst Presentation Secondary School took third when represented by Molly Healy and Monty Cruise, Orla Duggan and Commanche Child, Hannah Molloy on The Big Time and Chloe Doyle with Tullow Haq TikTak.
Evie Kennedy from the winning Ursuline open team also qualified for the TRI Premier 1.10m final by placing third on Max Jumping Joy. The class was won by Lexie Brennan and Ballyduff Boy. She represents Presentation Kilkenny. Ellie O’Connor from Creagh College riding Grove Street Lady was second. Harry Barton from Rockwell also qualifies for the 1.10m final, whilst Holly Finn from Cashel CS qualifies two horses - Jazzy Jaffa and Ballynoe Bay Boy.
Mia O’Donnell on Kinlough Lad for St Declan’s gained 10 points in the open league when winning the TRI open individual. Emma Hannon on Gra I Mo Chroí from St John the Baptist was second and Ailbhe Tobin from Cashel CS was third. She was riding Crested Sparrow. Emma English and Lexie Brennan also gained league points.
Niamh McCarthy from Cashel CS won the Equieire 90cm qualifier, just ahead of Kelly Mulcair and Annie representing Colaiste na Trocaire Rathkeale. Iris Corcoran also from Ursuline and Lucy Healy from Presentation both qualified for the Equieire 90cm final, when they finished third and sixth in that event. Final qualifying spots went to Abbie English and Elodie Kennedy.
Presentation Thurles won the Hopoti Novice team event with riders Olivia Bergin and Ruby, Blackfort Jay ridden by Ellie O’Donnell, Indie ridden by Kate Brown and Lucy Healy on Sunny Sky. Loreto Kilkenny were second with Colaiste Mhuire in third place.
Victory in the novice individuals went to Honor Mannion, whilst Michael Dunneon and Kilcreene Onyx won the Primary Individual class.

Action moved to Shanakill House Equestrian Centre on the Bank Holiday Monday. A three-member team from Loreto Wexford made all to win the TRI Equestrian Open team event represented by Hannah Rose Roche on Hop, Isabel Walsh and Pippa and Essener Double Dutch ridden by Anna Radford.
The St Mary’s New Ross team of Kate Costello on Conello Curraghmore, Eva Kent and Milchem Havana, Aoife Cummins and Abobrock Storm and Mia Kent with Queenies Cornet were runners-up. A second New Ross team placed third. Points in the league also go to Kilkenny College, Scoil Mhuire Greenhill and St Declan’s Kilmacthomas.

Loreto Convent Wexford won the open team competition at Shanakill. On the team was Hop (Hannah Rose Roche), Pippa (Isabel Walsh), Essener Double Dutch (Anna Radford)
Aoibheann O’Hara riding Ballywilliam Hot Shot from Scoil Chriost Ri won the Premier 1.10m class, ahead of Tom O’Donnell and Benji from Kilmacthomas and Donnacha Burns and Youghal Paddy.
Victory in the TRI Equestrian open individual league class was claimed by Charlotte Foley riding Cavalier’s Lady for St Declan’s, who saw off a determined challenge by Kilkenny’s Donnacha Burns on Youghal Paddy in second and Hannah Rose Roche from Loreto on Hop in third.
The Hopoti Novice team class went to St Declan’s Kilmacthomas with Scoil Mhuire Greenhills in second place. Maggie Anthony, Ella Hayes, Olivia Dooley and Emma English all qualify for the Equieire novice 90cm class and the Hopoti novice individual class was claimed by Georgia Foley from Newtown NS riding Mondelero’s Cardinal. Finally, first place in the Primary Individual class went to Rhys O’Brien from Blackwater NS riding Clondaw Misty.
This weekend, the league moves west to Hollypark Stables, before returning to the south east of the country, where Loreto Wexford will host the competition on November 9th.
