Clifden host at Ower
Clifden Community School hosted their first show at Ower Equestrian Centre last Sunday. The show was well supported with teams from Ballyglass NS, Kilglass NS, Ballyvary NS, Presentation College Headford, St Paul’s Secondary School and Clifden CS.
The indoor arena was the venue for all events, which started off with a super cross-poles individual event, won by Ceidin O’Halloran. These early events became a family affair for the O’Halloran family (Kilglass NS), with her brother Oscar taking the Connemara Horse and Country 50cm event.
Honor Mannion (Ballyglass NS) dominated the 70cm EII primary league individual and Hopoti novice 80cm individual classes with College Rose.
Clifden Community School took the places in the Connemara Horse and Country 60cm with the three Connemaras: Branchfield Dandy (Alannah Joyce), Shadow (Clodagh O’Toole) and Coumbrack Cora (Mollie Faherty).
St Paul’s Secondary Oughterard was victorious in the EII novice team event. The school was represented by a smart team of Dusty (Cliona Folan), Cloonbornia Carl (Ella Hegarty) and Coco (Eabha Joyce), all with double clear rounds. The host school had two teams in action for the popular event, with Clochanard Silver Princess (Lily Mae Flaherty), Blake (Aoife Nee) and JJ (Keris Mae O’Toole) taking second place and Railway View Ice (Clodagh O’Toole), Cloumbrack Cora (Mollie Faherty) and Branchfield Dandy (Aoibheann Joyce) taking third place.
St Paul’s dominated again in the Equieire EII 90cm qualifier, with the qualifying slots going to Dusty (Cliona Folan) and Coco (Eabha Joyce), Little Lunar Lux (Amelia Dobrowolska) and Railway View Ice (Clodagh O’Toole).
The Interschools campaign for both the host school and its local rival ended for 2026 in fine style, with a tense jump-off in the 1m TRI Equestrian open individual between Cloonbornia Carl ridden by Ella Heraty of St Paul’s and Forrest Buddy ridden by Keris Mae O’Toole for Clifden Community School. St Paul’s took the win with a time of 40.19s to Clifden’s 40.22.
Clifden Community School expressed thanks to Ower Equestrian, supporting parents and families, the sponsors and especially the competitors.
