THE sun shone for the interschools show jumping competition held on March 21st at the RDA Causeway and Glens Arena, Coleraine. Under the auspices of the Route Hunt Pony Club, this included a qualifier for the Bluegrass Schools’ Show Jumping Championships to be held at Balmoral on Saturday, May 16th, 2026. Due to many events throughout the province, the entries were slightly disappointing, but those who were there had a great day. A lovely atmosphere throughout ensued and everything went well, with the organisers receiving many compliments for the smooth running of the competitions.

The winning team from St Mary's College, Derry
The Qualifier had three teams take part and provided a nail-biting competition for the coveted one qualifying place. Sadly, Royal School Armagh, with only three members, were not faultless and therefore took third place. St Mary’s College Derry were victorious, beating Assumption Grammar, Ballynahinch, by the very narrow margin of 0.5 seconds, both teams completing faultless rounds. Assumption Grammar were 2025 winners at this qualifier, but sadly it was not to be for them this year.
Thanks to Bluegrass for the kind sponsorship of the Balmoral Qualifier competition. Thanks to the judges throughout the day and all the other hardworking helpers, who made for a very successful and enjoyable day.
For the other competitions, organisers are indebted to Baileys Horse Feed and Botanica International for their very generous sponsorship.
