A GOOD day’s sport was had by all who attended the TRI Equestrian Interschools last Saturday at JAG Equestrian. First up was the TRI Equestrian Open Team league class.

Victory was claimed after a two-school jump-off by the Newbridge College team of Mountain Girl and Bobby Weld, Lady Ace ridden by Eve Holohan, Little Miss Sunshine and Deryn Ryan, and Lollie O’Neill riding Blackjack when they posted the fastest time against the clock, ahead of St Mary’s New Ross.

Coppenagh Comet ridden by Hannah Hennessy Murphy, Crows Grove Nally and Mia Donovan, Swanview Cream of Dexter and Kate Kavanagh, and Queenies Cornet ridden by Mia Kent represented St Mary’s. Best of the rest and claiming third place and six league points was the team of three from East Glendalough; they were En Vogue and Kimmy McCall, Dan the Man with Louisa Smith and Ossie Celoso ridden by Sophie Rothschild, who were unlucky to lower a pole to finish on just four faults. Remaining league points went to Colaiste Bhride Carnew, St Mary’s Naas and St Gerard’s.

Newbridge College also claimed victory in the TRI Equestrian Premier 1.10m class, when Lucy McCarthy riding Geron RS saw off Lucy Gaffney on World of Orestus for St Mary’s, who placed second and Louisa Dalton and Monarch of the Glen from St Leo’s Carlow, who was third. Lucy McCarthy qualified her second mount Maggie Mai for the final and also qualifying for the final is Morgan Leahy and Eitherard for Ashfield College, and Stracciatella ridden by Aibidh Condren from St Gerard’s.

Monarch of the Glen and Louisa Dalton placed first in the TRI open league class, ahead of Aibidh Condren and Stracciatella and RMA Silver Dollar ridden by Kitty Moran for Holy Child Killiney. Abbie Flynn, Kimmie McCall and Lucy McCarthy also gained league points.

Novice classes

The novice riders then got their chance to show their paces. The Equieire novice 90cm class was won by Holy Child Killiney representative Chloe Lalloo, when she steered Kildromin Mentor to victory, ahead of the already qualified Presentation College’s Sarah Ryan, who rode Ballinaguilkey Rocco. Already qualified for the final is Erin Davis from Carnew on Copper Highlights, who finished third.

Castlecomer’s Leah Hickey on Danesfield Duke, Mia Bracken from St Paul’s on Celtic May Gypsey, Grace Rennick and Launa’s Mist from Scoil Mhuire Trim, and Joel Keane riding Quivive de Kinavagh from Carnew, all gain qualifying spots.

The King’s Hospital team of Lahinch Gismo and Rosie Fowler, Clacaracha de ridden by Penny O’Brien, Dale and Phillipa Hillman, and Kilea Pearl and Lilian Ward were the only team to finish on a zero score in the Hopoti novice team’s class.

St Paul’s Monasterevin, represented by Killina Beauty and Caoimhe Casey, Cross Keys with Lily Lucy, Holly on Enzo and Megan Roberts and Celtic Moy Gypsey ridden by Mia Bracken were next best, finishing on four faults. St Gerard’s Bray were third.

Rhys O’Brien from Blackwater NS won the EII 75cm league class on Clondaw Misty, ahead of Highmead Song and Dance ridden by Peter Connolly from Castlepark in second and Catch Me Now ridden by Frankie Rath from Screen in third. Saoirse Brennan riding Billy Two Shoes claimed the 80cm mixed novice class with Frankie Rath and Catch Me Now and Mia Webbon on Scotchtown for Newbridge College in second and third.

Brothers Peter, Patrick and James Connolly from Castlepark NS won the Primary teams class at JAG Interschools

The fun 55cm class was won in fine style by Garnagree Gift ridden by Jacob Cluxton Conley from Grange NS. The Primary team’s class was decided by a jump-off and an all-brother team of the Connolly brothers from Castlepark NS pipped Aughrim NS by the slimmest of margins.

Peter Connolly rode Rachel’s Rory, whilst Patrick partnered Killeary Limited Edition and James was on Dromahair Bird. Aughrim was represented by siblings Edith and Mackensie Rickerby on Grey Buffy and Kelly Little Gem, as well as Liscross Tormey ridden by Florence McArdle and Gwilym Davies and Donard Ollie.

Action this weekend is in Wexford.
