LORETO Wexford hosted its annual TRI Equestrian Interschools show last Sunday with the help of Wexford Equestrian Centre’s Orla Roche and team. It was a day packed with great show jumping on display in both arenas.

The team competitions took place indoors, commencing with the fun Jodz primary teams’ event. It was the team from Blackwater NS - Midnight Magic (Katie Murphy Kelly), Clondaw Misty (Rhys O’Brien), Paulanka Black Magic (Bobby Walsh) and Outrath CSI (Lilly Kelly) - who claimed the red rosette.

This was followed by the Hopoti novice teams event and victory went to the host school, Loreto Wexford. Indeed, Loreto Wexford also claimed second and third places. Loreto was represented by Curraghmore Sparrow (Shannon Griffith), Firefly Kadie (Izzy Bates), WNDA Toby (Caitlin Griffith), Jumpingdale Peanut (Ruby Cousins) in first place, Tricklebrook Jaguar (Sadye Moran), Skittles Princess (Ciara Broderick), Ballynoe Liz (Mary Kate Kelly) and Summer Diamond (Amy Griffith) in second and King Louis (Annie Scallan), Outliar (Emily Mai Purcell), DS with Me (Harriett Bolger) and Diva Dolly (Faye Howlin) in third.

It was then the turn of the open riders to jump and, keeping up its good run, the host school ran out the winners of the TRI Equestrian open team class. This time unnamed ridden by Isobell Walsh, Sally Grey Gallough (Aoife Griffith), Churchland’s Liberty (Freya Barry) and Essener Double Dutch (Anna Radford) represented Loreto. St Declan’s Kilmacthomas, represented by Kinlough Lad (Mia O’Donnell), Judi Kaboom (Fionn O’Donnell) and Benji (Tom O’Donnell), took the runner-up slot with Ramsgrange CS in third.

Annie Gamble (Niamh Colfer), Achill (Brooke Sutton McGarry) and The Six Miler (Dearbhla O’Dwyer) made up the Ramsgrange team. Remaining points in the TRI Equestrian open team league went to East Glendalough, Presentation Wexford and Colaiste Bhride Carnew.

The TRI 1m open individual league class followed. Here, St Declan’s Kilmacthomas rider Mia O’Donnell on Kinlough Lad saw off a determined challenge from Brooke Sutton McGarry and Achill who finished second and Ruby Cousins with Sally Grey Gallough in third. Remaining places went to Sarah O’Reilly, Grace Shannon and Ned Kelly. The final open class was the TRI Premier 110 qualifier.

Keeping up the host school’s good run of luck, Hannah Rose Roche riding Hop posted the fastest time to take the win, ahead of Sophie Rhatigan and Ballyfane Lola for Glenart College, Ellie O’Connor and Grove Street Lady from Creagh College, Ned Kelly from Kilkenny College on JK Maneater, Emma Byrne and Boularee for Avondale and Tom O’Donnell and Benji for St Declan’s.

Individuals

The primary and novice individual events were run outdoors. The Equieire novice 90cm qualifier class produced places in the final for Anna Sarsfield and Glenhead Summer, Cloughill Raven and Katie Gannon and Erin Davis and Copper Highlights in first, second and third. Maya Johnson, Ellie Brosnan Fleming and Anna Curry also qualified. Shannon Griffith on Curraghmore Sparrow won the Hopoti 80cm class. Cora Goff riding Westside Mirah for Mayglass NS was victorious in the primary 75cm class as was Sadie O’Keefe riding Cullane Cinders in the 55cm class. There was also a 90cm premier primary class which was won by Abbie Murphy from Ramsgrange NS. She rode the aptly-named Wonderful White.

Action this weekend is in Ower in Galway, where St Paul’s Oughterard are the hosts and in David Maher’s Roscrea Equestrian Centre.
