BRIDGETOWN College hosted its leg of the TRI Equestrian Interschools league last Saturday in Wexford Equestrian with help from Orla Roche and her team.
A full day of jumping commenced with the primary riders and the team of Eva (Billy Scallan), Blondie (Annie Stafford), Gizmo (Gracie Kelly) and Ariel (Sadbh Whelan) from Rathangan National School swept the board in the primary teams’ event. EII Primary league leader Rhyss O’Brien riding Clondaw Misty for Blackwater once again won the 75cm class to gain 10 points, whilst St Glenville Tempest ridden by Ciara Sarsfield from Kilmore NS won the primary 90cm class and Ariel and Robin Murphy from Rathangan NS won the 55cm class.
The Hopoti 80cm class, open to primary and secondary pupils, was claimed by Screen NS pupil Frankie Rath and Catchmenow. Abbie Murphy from Ramsgrange and Turbo Power were second and Olivia Parsons from Ard Scoil Na Mara on Pearl was third.
The novice teams’ competition was hotly contested and the Loreto Wexford team of Firefly Kadie (Izzy Bates), WNDA Toby (Caitlin Griffith), Ballynoe Liz (Mary Kate Kelly) and Curraghmore Sparrow (Shannon Griffith) placed first just pipping the team from St Mary’s New Ross. This comprised Brooklawn Island Buachaill (Clodagh Murphy), My Boy Benji (Kate Corcoran), Lakelands Master Blue (Emily English) and Sandy of Springhill (Niamh Kavanagh). Host School Bridgetown College were awarded the yellow rosettes for third. Bridgetown was represented by Mossy Boy (Kate Cadogan), Willow (Hazel Slattery), Maescrofta Minister (Holly Cadogan) and Coolboy Roisin (Kate Gaul). Gorey Community School also gained Hopoti League points in this competition.
Novice 90cm
The Equieire novice 90cm class was won by the already qualified Shannon Griffith from Loreto riding Curraghmore Sparrow. Ruby Cousins on Jumpingdale Peanut, also from Loreto, gained a qualifying spot when coming second. Caraselle de Rev ridden by Cathal Murphy for Gorey also qualified as did Blake Kavanagh, Leah Murphy, Caitlin Griffith and Eoghan Murphy.
Open teams
Open team action followed. The TRI Equestrian Interschools Team class was won by the host school. Bridgetown College was represented by Ted (Joe Ryan), Gracie (Molly Bates Doyle), Crossgales Cornacass (Lilly Walsh) and Broele Mist (Hazel Slattery). St Mary’s New Ross came second and they were represented by Shamrock Storm (Aoife Cummins), Boughlone Nelson (Eva Kent), Coolafinka Quinn (Laura Neville) and Crows Grove Nellie (Mia Donovan). The Loreto Wexford team of Hop (Hannah Rose Roche), Inch Hill Pippa (Isobelle Walsh) and Churchland’s Liberty (Freya Barry) placed third.
The TRI Individual class attracted a strong entry and victory was secured by Brooke Sutton McGarry riding Achill for Ramsgrange, when posting the fastest time and leaving all the poles intact. Close behind was Hannah Rose Roche riding Hop for Loreto Wexford. St Mary’s New Ross student Kate Kavanagh on Swan View was third. Laura Timmons, Niamh Colfer and Tom Hickey also gained league points here.
Finally, the TRI Premier 110 class went to Lauren Timmons riding Bella for Creagh College with Brooke Sutton McGarry again riding Achill in second.
Shanakill House Equestrian hosted a Bank Holiday Interschools competition and this will be reported on when results are received. Meanwhile, action remains in Wexford this weekend and then moves to Boswell Equestrian before the midterm break.
