CONAN Wright enjoyed a successful final day at CSI2* Zuidwolde in Holland last Sunday, which he concluded by winning the two-star 1.45m Gemeente De Wolden Prize Grand Prix aboard Stal Brinkman’s Mr Cornet De Regor Z.

Wright produced one of nine clears from 46 starters in the first round to progress to the jump-off, where six combinations completed with clean sheets. The Irish rider’s time of 41.61 could not be bettered however, and he was left with a wide margin over runners-up Dennis Van Den Brink and Night Star (42.39) to claim the €9,999 first prize.

German winner

Earlier in the day, Wright had also finished eighth in the one-star 1.35m Morrenhof Jansen Prize Grand Prix riding Olivia P, when they produced one of the quicker round for four faults. The class was one by Germany’s Justus Sternschulte and Blue Touch, fastest of just three double clears.

Podium placing

Matt Garrigan claimed a podium placing for Ireland on Saturday in the two-star 1.40m Scheepsworf Poppen Prize, another class in which there were only three double clears. Garrigan produced the steadiest of these with Chloe La Quadra to cross the finish line in 46.22, while eventual winners Laurie Touw and Jewel set a blistering pace to finish in 43.47.

In the age classes, Conor Drain finished 10th in the VDL Stud Prize CSIYH1* six-year-old final riding Cartouche B Van Speyhoeve Z for Haselbekke Horses, while Sara-Jane Tracy shared equal first when she rode Repetentia Eikenrode in the CSIYH1* Mooi B V Prize for five-year-olds. In the one-star 1.20m small tour final qualifier, Conor Quirke finished fifth aboard Olina Van De Falieberg.
