IRELAND’S Conan Wright gave a good account of himself at the three-star World Cup show at Warsaw in Poland, with several good placings.
Wright made a great start when he and the nine-year-old gelding Litmanen finished as runners-up in the 55-strong 1.35m Medium Tour two-phase special class. The pair jumped double clear in a jump-off time of 28.06, which was less than 0.4 seconds behind the Polish class winner, Patryk Skrzyczynski on Jerico (27.67).
Wright and Litmanen then placed fifth of 23 starters in Friday’s 1.35m speed and music class with a clear round in 57.89. The class was won by Mathies Ruder (GER) on Flora V in a very fast time of 53.19 - more than three seconds ahead of second-placed Laura Penele (LAT) on Dundas VDM (56.73), while Michael Jung (GER) and Qwatt slotted into third place in 57.12.
The 1.45m Medium Tour Final Winning Round class on Saturday saw Wright place sixth out of a start list of 47 on board Mr Cornet De Regor, when they jumped double clear in a ‘Winning Round’ time of 45.65. Msciwoj Kiecon (POL) and Idealisca won the class with a second-round time of 40.05, despite having four faults in round one - such is the nature of the class.
Sunday saw a 1.35m ‘Last Chance’ speed class being held, in which Wright secured another fifth-place finish on Litmanen from a start list of 32, when they jumped clear in 57.56. Germany’s Fabienne Graefe on Cavallo PS Z took the top spot in 54.31.
