IT was an Irish one-two in Saturday’s 60-strong Final Gold 3 1.45m jump-off at week two of the Spring Mediterranean Equestrian Tour at Oliva, Spain, as Niall Talbot and Charming Dream Z rode to victory when double clear in 36.53, ahead of Eoin McMahon on Disney Z, who was a close second in 36.71. And then, Talbot won Sunday’s 17-strong Gold 1 1.30m jump-off class on Helios CH, double clear in 33.97. McMahon and Ada Race took fourth in 37.47.
Placings
Louth’s Mark McAuley and Nevada were among the joint winners in Tuesday’s 60-strong 1.35m seven-year-old class and placed fourth in Wednesday’s 1.35m seven-year-old jump-off class of 56. The pair were then runners-up in the MET Young Horse Champions Trophy for seven-year-olds, only beaten by Turkey’s Derin Demirsoy on Talifax Van’T Roth.
Thursday saw McMahon get off the mark when fourth in the 38-strong 1.35m seven-year-old two-phase special class on Just Daims B, double clear in 32.67. Eduard Slobodeniuk (UKR) on Marquis Pkz won the class in 31.85.
The 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding McQueen (Cobra x Carevara Z by Caretano Z), bred by Anne-Marie O’Gorman in Co Tipperary, was ridden by Anna Power (GBR) to win the 66-strong 1.45m Grand Prix qualifier.
McMahon was 10th in Friday’s Gold 2 1.35m large class of 83 onCSF Ballsbridge, while the Gold 4 1.50m Grand Prix qualifier saw McAuley on l’Arc En Ciel Z in sixth place, followed by Harry Allen on Lukaku Vd Bisschop in seventh. McAuley took another sixth place in the Silver 2 1.40m two-phase class with Illusion de Riverland and Molly Taylor and Limitless came second in the Bronze 2 1.20m class.
McMahon placed joint fifth in Saturday’s Gold 1 1.30m class riding Ada Race. Talbot and Charming Dream Z were 10th in Sunday’s 1.50m Grand Prix.
