DOWN’S Conor Swail was on form once again when competing at Thermal in California over the weekend. Not only did he secure placings in individual classes, but his team also finished on the podium in the five-star Major League Show Jumping team competition.

The best of Swail’s individual results was with Theo 160, when they finished as runners-up in Saturday’s five-star $62,500 1.50m Winning Round class when double clear in a second-round time of 34.17 - less than a second behind Colombia’s Mark Bluman on Phelina de Septon (33.33). Roberto Teran Tafur, also from Colombia, and Condar took third place. The best 10 of the 33 starters proceeded to the ‘winning round’, where four managed to jump double clear.

The five-star Desert Holiday 2 fixture was held at Desert International Horse Park in Thermal, California last week and included the Palm Springs Major League Show Jumping, with Irish representatives securing some ribbons.

On Wednesday, Swail rode Cornet Deluxe into fourth place in the $10,000 1.35m Welcome speed class, with a clear round in 63.25 seconds.

Michael Duffy and Chili Pepper HMZ won the two-star $5,000 1.40m two-phase special, with a double clear round in a jump-off time of 23.2. This pair then placed third in Thursday’s two-star $32,000 1.45m speed class.

Swail and Cornet Deluxe went on to win Friday’s $10,000 DIHP 10 and under Futurity Series 1.35m class, when double clear in a jump-off time of 28.31.

Saturday’s five-star $62,500 1.50m Major League Show Jumping individual speed class saw Swail place fifth on board Theo 160, when clear in 73.10. This helped his Trelawny Trailblazers team to third place in the five-star $200,000 1.50m MLSJ team competition, where Swail was accompanied by Charlotte Jacobs on Rincoola Milsean (ISH) and Natalie Dean on Pedro van de Barlebuis, both of whom ride for the USA. Duffy concluded the show with a 10th place finish in the five-star $340,000 1.60m Grand Prix on board BE Sky Hawk, when an unfortunate four faults ruled them out of the jump-off. Callie Schott (USA) and Garant won the class and the lion’s share of the prize fund.
