KILKENNY’S Jack Ryan came out on top in Friday’s one-star Young Horse 1.30m seven-year-old speed class, as week two of the Andalucia Pre-Sunshine Tour took place at Vejer de la Frontera in Spain last week. Ryan rode Ever So Clever GM Z to a clear round in 64.21 seconds - almost a second ahead of runner-up Jaroslav Sima (CZE) on Januzaj, who finished in 65.14.
But Ryan wasn’t done there. He then won the day’s three-star 1.45m two-phase class with the 10-year-old Keatingstown Mister Cool (Messenger x Chacco-Blue), owned by Susan Fitzpatrick, with a double clear round in a second phase time of 25.27. Germany’s Jens Baackmann rode Cinderella into the runner-up spot in 25.88, with the podium being completed by Rogier Linssen (NED) on Commander Lux (25.98). Ryan claimed another top-five placing when fifth with the 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding DSH Lucky Junior (BBS McGregor x Dshlyi by Luidam), owned and bred by his uncle, Seamus Drea (29.18), while Susan Fitzpatrick and Guedelon Batilly placed eighth (29.86).
Last Thursday’s one-star Young Horse 1.25m seven-year-old two-phase special class saw Ryan placing sixth on Ever So Clever GM Z and eighth with the Irish Sport Horse gelding DSH Vigo Sea.
Maria Ryan rode Navarro into eighth place in Saturday’s three-star 1.20m two-phase special class.
