CLARE’S Philip McGuane rode Crislin Van De Bosrand Z to victory in last Friday’s two-star $32,000 1.45m Welcome Stakes class at Old Salem Farm to take home the winner’s prize of $10,560.

Brazil’s Rodrigo Pessoa and Eclat Du Cerisier took second place in the class, followed by Caroline Mawhinney on Carsey Z in third place.

The four-star September horse show at Old Salem Farm, New York ran from Wednesday until Sunday last week and saw some good results from the Irish contingent.

Starting the show well, Ireland’s Paul O’Shea took the runner-up spot in Wednesday’s four-star $32,000 1.45m two-phase class on board Squirt Gun.

The 43-strong class was won by Nayel Nassar (EGY) on Dorado de Riverland, while Luis Larrazabal (VEN) placed third on Baroness.

Two-phase class

On Thursday, David O’Brien came out on top in the two-star $5,000 1.40m two-phase class on board El Balou OLD. The pair finished ahead of Pessoa on Eclat Du Cerisier in second place, while Taylor Madden (USA) completed the podium on Manhattan VDL in third.

The four-star $200,000 Blue Diamond Cup class on Saturday saw McGuane ride the talented Orphea HQ into seventh place.

It was an all-American podium in the class, which was won by Adrienne Sternlicht on Origa V/H Zuid-Pajottenland, with Marilyn Little on La Contessa in second and Molly Ashe Cawley on Quimi Del Maset in third.

Two-star show jumping continues at the venue from September 16th to 21st.
