MEATH’S Cian O’Connor finished on the podium in the three-star 1.50m Vilamoura Classic at Le Touquet in France on Friday with Bentley de Sury with a double clear in a jump-off time of 42.09. Jessica Mendoza (GBR) and Summerhouse finished less than a second ahead in 41.16 to win the class, with Belgium’s Gilles Thomas on Qiara of Kalvarie in second place in 42.05.

Competition at Le Touquet began on Thursday and saw Tom Wachman ride Do It Easy into fifth place in the three-star 1.45m Grand Prix, when they jumped clear in a jump-off time of 68.59. The class was won by Ben Maher (GBR) on Ginger-Blue (65.96).

Sunday’s three-star 1.55m Grand Prix saw Trevor Breen steer Highland President into fifth place in a class of 60, where just eight proceeded to the decider. The pair jumped double clear and stopped the clock in 48.20 in the jump-off, but were almost five seconds behind the class winner, Nina Mallevaey (FRA) on board her reliable Irish Sport Horse mare My Clementine, bred by David Prentice.
