KILDARE’S Daniel Fitzgerald made his presence felt at the three-star fixture at the Riviera resort of San Giovanni in Marignano in Italy over the weekend, with a win and placings in three-star classes at the show.
Fitzgerald’s best result of the fixture was a win in Friday’s 1.45m Ranking speed class on board the nine-year-old mare Fleuriske Z, with a clear round in a very fast time of 66.09. They were more than two seconds ahead of their nearest rival Riccardo Pisani (ITA) on Chacco’s Lawito PS, who finished in 68.37 to take second place.
The Kildare native had kicked off the show with an overall fourth-place finish in Thursday’s 1.40m Ranking speed class on board Guerlain de Kreisker, with a clear round in 60.83 seconds. The class had been divided and the Irish pair were runners-up in their division.
Fitzgerald was on the podium again on Saturday, when he placed second with Guerlain de Kreisker in the 1.40m jump-off class.
Their time of 33.98 was just off the pace of German winner Christian Kukuk on Fantasy of Wy, who stopped the clock in 33.41.
