DERMOTT Lennon had a great weekend at the four-star show in Gorla Minore, Italy.
The Co Down rider claimed the runner-up spot in Friday’s four-star 1.45m speed class on board the 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Millview Cicero (Cicero Z Van Paemal (BWP) x Royal Dutch (KWPN) by Oklund (KWPN)), bred by Harry Marshall and owned by Bronte Stables.
Thirty-six combinations went to post, with 16 jumping clear rounds. Lennon’s fault-free round in a time of 59.31 seconds was fast and over a second ahead of third-placed Barbara Schniefer (SUI) and Toronto Raptor (60.55), but he could not catch the very speedy Portuguese winner, Mario Wilson Fernandes on Kaboom, who stopped the clock in 57.01.
Lennon had got his show off to a good start on Friday, when placing sixth in the seven-year-old speed class on CMG Winchester and the pair followed this up with a seventh place in Saturday’s seven-year-old two-phase class.
The former world champion then rode Kinmar Right On Time into ninth place in the day’s four-star 1.40m two-phase class, jumping double clear in 30.86.
Lennon and CMG Winchester showed their class when winning Sunday’s seven-year-old speed class, jumping clear in 60.62 to conclude a successful weekend.
