IRELAND was in the ribbons around Europe over the weekend. At the four-star Longines Deauville Classic show at Deauville in France, Trevor Breen finished on the podium in Friday’s four-star 1.40m Prix Ajwad Equestrian Team two-phase special class on board the nine-year-old mare Drewmain Meira, taking third place with a double clear round in a time of 32.93 seconds.
Breen and Kannoon Blue also placed ninth in the day’s four-star 1.50m Prix Institut Esthederm speed class, when they kept the poles intact in a time of 71.69. Victor Bettendorf (LUX) took the win with Encore Toi du Linon in a very fast time of 65.08.
CSI2* Bonheiden
The two-star show at Bonheiden in Belgium saw success for Kilkenny’s Ivan Dalton, who secured a runner-up position in Thursday’s 1.45m Longines Ranking class with Floris R Z, only being beaten by Fraser Reed (GBR) on the nine-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding SES Jumeirah, bred by Matthew McBreen. Dalton had also placed second in the day’s 1.40m two-phase class with Houruari Sine.
CSI2* Kronenberg
Mayo’s Ciaran Nallon rode the 10-year-old mare Casalla Blue PS, owned by Beerbaum Stables, to win Saturday’s two-star 1.45m Grand Prix at Peelbeergen Equestrian Centre at Kronenberg in The Netherlands from a large start list of 81. Galway’s Michael Duffy wasn’t far behind in third with Camina Z.
Nallon and his mount completed a flawless double clear round and their time of 36.75 proved unbeatable, while Duffy’s time of 38.39 was almost good enough for second place, but for Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi (UAE) and Biarritz Z, who clocked 38.19 to just push Duffy into third.
CSI2* Baborowko
Ireland was also represented at the two-star fixture at Baborowko in Poland, where Diarmuid Howley and Sophie Dalm both secured placings across a variety of classes.
