THERE was Irish success at Compiegne in France over the weekend, when Denis Lynch and Vistogrand won Thursday’s three-star 1.50m jump-off class from a large start list of 92.
Thirty combinations recorded a clear first round for a chance to jump again, with 18 of them maintaining a clean sheet.
Lynch and his 13-year-old stallion clocked the fastest jump-off time of 37.54 to win the class, ahead of Francois Xavier Boudant (FRA) on Gloria des Besnards in second (38.84), who finished just a fraction in front of Marlon Modolo Zanotelli (BRA) on I Know (38.94).
Abbie Sweetnam rode Kiritan into eighth place in Wednesday’s three-star 1.40m speed class from a start list of 70. Sweetnam and Kiritan then placed seventh in the three-star 1.45m Winning Round class on Friday afternoon.
From a huge 95 starters, 27 jumped clear within the allocated time, with the best 12 of these proceeding to jump again.
Only four combinations remained fault-free, with Sweetnam picking up four faults in a time of 42.25 for seventh place. Julien Anquetin (FRA) on Fiona Des Ibis won the class when double clear in a second-round time of 38.57.
Sweetnam then finished on the podium in the Young Horse one-star 1.30m jump-off class with Kingston 68 when double clear in 43.60.
It was another home win for France, when Mathilde Couturier took the top spot on Essence EC Z (42.43).
CSI3* Gorla Minore
Meanwhile, week one of the Milan Jumping Challenge took place at the Equieffe Equestrian Centre at Gorla Minore in Italy last weekend, where the Irish riders in attendance had some pleasing results.
On Friday, Deirdre Reilly rode QS My Fairy King to win the one-star 1.15m speed class, ahead of Arielle Allen on Don Diarado 4 in seventh place. There were five clear rounds in the class, with Reilly’s time of 73.66 being almost two seconds ahead of her nearest rival, Karin Martinsen (SWE) on Tailormade Clear Heart’s Lady (75.47).
Saturday’s one-star 1.20m jump-off class saw Reilly finish equal second on board QS My Fairy King, after being among just four who jumped clear in the first round. Meanwhile, Sameh El Dahan (GBR) rode the Irish Sport Horse mare WKD Balou Breeze, bred by Joe Sloan, to win the three-star 1.50m two-phase class, when jumping double clear in a time of 31.33 seconds.
Reilly and QS My Fairy King then placed fourth in Sunday’s one-star 1.20m speed class, while Allen and Don Diarado 4 came out on top of the one-star 1.10m speed class, with El Dahan in fourth with another Irish Sport Horse, WKD Little Lord.
Shane Breen and Be Alcantara finished fifth in the three-star 1.40m two-phase class.
