THE Wachman brothers from Tipperary made their presence felt at the three-star Le Touquet Classic show in France (May 7th to 10th), with each of them recording a podium finish as well as other top-10 placings at the show.

A large field of 82 lined up for Friday’s three-star Prix Laboratoire LPC 1.50m jump-off class, with 15 negotiating the first-round track without penalty. Round two saw seven of them completing double clear rounds. Max Wachman scored a very close runner-up finish with the 11-year-old stallion Kannem JAZ in a jump-off time of 44.34. Brazil’s Pedro Junqueira Muylaert on Captain Ciwano finished just 0.10 seconds ahead in 44.24 to take the win. Meath’s Cian O’Connor was one of the 15 who were clear in the first round, but he decided not to jump again with the 10-year-old stallion Gospel Tame.

Max then placed ninth in the day’s three-star Prix Markel 1.35m speed class on board Corinna Z (78.03). The class saw an all-French podium, led by Tony Hanquinquant on Deesse De Groix in a time of 69.84.
