WEXFORD’S Harry Allen rode the 12-year-old gelding Edison De Hus to win the 1.50m Grand Prix qualifier, a ranking class, at Scuderia La Caccia, Bedizzole in Italy on Friday. There were 70 starters in the two-round class, with the best 14 proceeding to the jump-off. Seven combinations kept a clean sheet throughout, with Allen registering the fastest time of 36.75 to secure victory. Runner-up Anthony Bourquard (SUI) on Semilly Festival finished almost two seconds behind in second place (38.67), with Sweden’s Linda Heed on Laurien van Orshof completing the podium in third (39.83).

The four-star 1.35m speed class on Friday saw Niall Talbot ride Helios CH into ninth place from a start list of 66, while Daniel Fitzgerald on Fleuriske Z took on a field of 90 to place eighth in the day’s 1.40m two-phase class. Fitzgerald then took fifth place with Gryffindor du Rouet in the 40-strong 1.45m two-phase special class and placed fifth in Sunday’s four-star 1.45m speed class on Fleuriske Z.
Emily Turkington had a number of good placings in the young horse classes throughout the show.
