CLARE’S Eoin McMahon rode Disney Z to victory in Friday’s two-star 1.45m Grand Prix qualifier at Sentower Park in Opglabbeek, Belgium, from a start list of 81. There were 19 combinations who jumped clear within the time allowed to book their place in the jump-off, one of whom withdrew leaving 18 to battle it out. Eleven pairs maintained their clean sheets, with McMahon’s time of 35.59 proving fastest. Fraser Reed (GBR) on SES Jumeirah was next best in 35.82, while Brecht Goossens (BEL) on Alaska Z completed the podium in third (36.13). Wexford’s Bertram Allen and Caprisco placed sixth in the class in 37.38.
Saturday’s 73-strong two-star 1.45m speed class saw Tipperary’s Denis Lynch ride Junius Vd Heffinck Z into the runner-up position when clocking a time of 59.71. Dutch rider Lars Kersten took the win with Dancing Queen in 59.00.
The two-star 1.45m Grand Prix on Sunday saw Lynch finish on the podium in third with Conterno-Blue PS from 74 starters. Twelve combinations jumped double clear, with Lynch’s time of 42.79 not far behind British winner Joe Whitaker on Hulahupe JR (41.50) and German runner-up Armin Schafer on Dante (42.36).
There were 10 Irish riders in attendance at the show, with several of them recording placings across the two-star, one-star and young horse classes.
