THE Coyle brothers were on fire at Spruce Meadows in Canada over the weekend, each winning and placing in multiple classes. The pair even claimed two places on the podium in the $1 million 1.60m Atco Queen Elizabeth II Cup, when Daniel and the 12-year-old gelding Incredible took the win after jumping an ‘incredible’ three clear rounds in a time of 35.21 seconds.

Jordan finished close behind in third on board Chaccolino, when he stopped the clock in 35.86. They were only separated by Kyle King (USA) on Kayenne Z in second place (35.29).

“It only took 10 years… It’s incredible!” an emotional Daniel said afterwards. “I wasn’t sure how today would go, to be honest. He was second last week, which probably gave me a wee bit more of a spur on to try and get it over the line.

“Today, there’s already two rounds before you try and win the class, so it was a challenging course. In the third round, thanks to Jordan, he didn’t make it simple. Then Kyle scared me. I thought I was going to be second again but thankfully I was able to hold onto it.

“I never have won a five-star Grand Prix on Incredible either. He’s been close a lot of times, he’s jumped a lot of clear rounds in five-star Grands Prix all over the world, but I haven’t been able to get over the line and he picked a great place to do it.

“It’s very emotional for me this one. I’ve been here for 10 years now. I came here in the beginning to ride with Conor Swail and learn the ropes of Spruce Meadows and for the last 10 years I haven’t won a Grand Prix [here]… but this is a good one to win so I’m happy about that!”

Derry’s Coyle brothers started as they meant to go on, taking a one-two in the 1.35m-1.40m Canada Cup Derby on the opening day. Daniel won the class on Calippo 57 in a jump-off time of 34.16, ahead of Jordan on King Kannan GP in second (34.40).

On Wednesday, the 1.40m Friends of the Meadows Jumper class saw Conor Swail place fifth with Clique, with Darragh Kenny on Mendoza VDL in seventh and O’Shea on Escola du Golfe in eighth, while David O’Brien placed sixth with Birkegaardens Malibu DWB in the 1.45m Partners Jumper class.

Thursday’s 1.50m Friends of the Meadows class saw five Irish in the top 10, with Jordan Coyle on King Kannan GP coming out on top this time, followed by Swail on Qoreen van’T Ruytershof in third, Daniel Coyle on Farrel in fifth.

The day’s 1.55m Jayman Built Cup saw Kenny finish best of the Irish when fourth on Zero K, while Jordan Coyle on For Gold took sixth, Andrew Bourns on Sea Topblue were seventh and Swail on Casturano placed 10th.

Friday saw Daniel Coyle outdo himself, when claiming a one-two in the 1.45m McNerney Family Cup, winning the class with Daydream and taking the runner-up spot with Calippo 57. Kenny and Mendoza VDL finished in seventh place.

Kenny then won the 1.50m Atco Cup with Lightning, who lived up to his name with a super-quick jump-off time of 36.95, with Swail on Qoreen van’T Ruytershof taking second in 42.33. The pair were the only double clears in the class. Daniel Coyle and Legacy took fifth place after incurring faults in the jump-off. Kenny then took fifth place in a 1.30m class with Colibelle Hero Z.

Saturday’s 1.50m Akita Drilling Cup was dominated by the Irish, with Jordan Coyle and For Gold taking the win, followed by brother Daniel on Farrel in fifth place.

Kenny and Colibelle Hero Z won the 1.40m Moore Equine Cup, with Swail on Clique placing seventh in the class.

Sunday’s 1.50m Kubota Cup saw yet another one-two for Ireland and another win for Jordan Coyle on For Gold, with Chawke taking the runner-up position on Daido van’T Ruytershof Z and the Sun Life Derby saw both Coyle brothers in the placings again, with Jordan placing fifth with King Kannan GP and Daniel in eighth on Calippo 57.
