IRELAND’S Ciaran Nallon showed great consistency at the two-star show at Riesenbeck in Germany at the weekend, with two wins, three podium places, as well as a few top-10 finishes during the four-day show.

Nallon started off well, when he placed both second and fourth in Thursday’s 47-strong one-star Young Horse six and seven-year-old 1.20m/1.25m two-phase class with Impress De Jolie Z (35.80) and Zados R (36.16) respectively. The class was won by Jesse Berkers (NED) on Oklahoma VG in a time of 35.29. Another Irish man, James Connors Smyth, rode Chase 8 into 10th place.

Nallon then won the one-star Small Tour 1.30m speed class of 68 starters on board Ogana Sitte Sr in a very fast 60.83 – his nearest rival was German runner-up Alexandra Tebbe on Skala ST, who stopped the clock more than four seconds behind in 64.91.

Friday saw Connors Smyth finish on the podium with Conrad 182, when they placed third in the one-star Young Horse six and seven-year-old 1.20m/1.25m speed class from a start list of 45, with a clear round in 60.03. Jesse Berkers (NED) and Oklahoma VG took another top spot in a time of 57.49.

Nallon took another win with Ogana Sitte Sr, this time in the 74-strong one-star Small Tour 1.30m speed class, when they jumped clear in 56.90 - more than three seconds ahead of runner-up Hannes Ahlmann (GER) on Cosima 315 (59.96).

Connors Smyth and Unique secured a top-10 finish in the one-star Light Tour 1.20m speed class, where they placed 10th of the 22 starters.

Nallon took two podium places in Saturday’s one-star Final Youngster Tour six and seven-year-old 1.25m/1.30m two-phase class, when riding Zados R into second place (26.50) and Impress de Jolie Z into third (26.68). Josch Lohden (GER) was best of the 45 starters here on board FRH Cheers to Life LA just a whisker ahead in 26.42. Connors Smyth on Chase 8 placed eighth in the class in a time of 29.12.

The day’s one-star Final Small Tour 1.35m two-phase class saw Connors Smyth place 10th out of 49 starters, this time riding Zendaya 5.

Nallon concluded a positive show with a ninth place in the two-star 1.45m Grand Prix of Riesenbeck with Casalla Blue PS, after an unfortunate four faults in the first round prevented them from getting through to the jump-off. From the 58 starters, only seven jumped clear for the chance to jump again, with four combinations completing two rounds without fault. Italy’s Giampiero Garofalo and Lambrusco won the class in a jump-off time of 40.06.
