TIPPERARY’S Trevor Breen and the 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare ABC Cortana Cruise (Cornet Obolensky x Cruising), bred by Patrick Kehoe in Co Wexford and owned by Melanie Davidson, came out on top in the three-star Small Tour class on Saturday at Chard Equestrian Centre in the UK.
From a start list of 52, 14 combinations jumped clear in round one. All but six faulted second time out, with Breen and his mount clocking the fastest jump-off time of 41.64 seconds.
Greg Le Gear and I-Touch were among the joint winners in the one-star young horse five-year-old speed class on the opening day, while in the six-year-old two-phase special. Four Irish riders finished in the top eight of the three-star Big Tour two-phase class, with Shane Breen on Fanfan de Beaufour taking the runner-up spot, followed by brother Trevor on Kannoon Blue in fourth, David Simpson on Billy Fern in fifth and Condon on Casago du Rouet PS in seventh.
Friday saw Burke and Rivella de La Liniere place seventh in the one-star Gold Tour speed class, while in the three-star Small Tour two-phase special, Condon placed fourth with Dallco Chance, followed by Trevor Breen on ABC Cortana Cruise in fifth.
Jessica Burke rode Good Star du Bary into fourth place in the three-star Big Tour qualifier. Burke followed this up with another fourth place in the equivalent class on Saturday with Romelus de Muze. She had another top five finish in the day’s one-star seven-year-old two-phase class when fifth on Nibelle, while Simpson and Billy Fountain were fifth in Sunday’s final.
Le Gear went on to take third with I-Touch in the one-star young horse five-year-old final, while in the six-year-old final, Condon on SFS Getaway placed sixth, followed by Burke on Billy Be Kind in 10th. Ireland’s Jamie Lyttle had various placings in the amateur classes at the show, culminating in a third place in the concluding class on Sunday with Jaipur du Granit.
