RISING Irish show jumper Arielle Allen, who is based at Sycamore Stables in Northern Ireland, has been named as one of the recipients of the coveted Linda Southern-Heathcott Horsemanship $5,000 Scholarship during the Spruce Meadows ‘National’ five-star show, presented by Rolex – a particularly special moment as the legendary Canadian venue celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Awarded annually to riders who embody the true spirit of horsemanship, the scholarship honours those who demonstrate deep respect for their teammate – the horse; a tireless work ethic behind the scenes; and a genuine love for the journey that excellence in sport demands.
Arielle impressed the Spruce Meadows team with her dedication, talent and humility, while competing aboard Kandice Z.
In receiving the award, Arielle commented: “To receive the Linda Southern-Heathcott Horsemanship Scholarship here at Spruce Meadows, especially during its 50th anniversary, is an incredible honour. I’m so grateful to the team at home and to everyone at Spruce for recognising the values that matter most – respect for the horse, hard work, and love for what we do.”
Her mother, Joanne Sloan Allen, added: “I’m incredibly proud of Arielle – not just for what she’s achieved in the ring, but for how she conducts herself outside of it. This award is about the deeper values in our sport, and I know how hard she works every day to be the best horsewoman she can be. It’s an unforgettable milestone in her journey. For a young Irish rider to be recognised is truly special.”
The Spruce Meadows 50th anniversary has been a landmark celebration, honouring five decades of global show jumping at one of the world’s most iconic venues. The Linda Southern-Heathcott Horsemanship Scholarship is a $5,000 legacy award named after Spruce Meadows’ President and CEO, recognising the human-horse bond at the heart of equestrian sport.
