WEXFORD’S Harry Allen brought his A-game to Azelhof Horse Events on Sunday, when he rode the 15-year-old bay stallion Lukaku Vd Bisschop, owned by Aloga Stables, into first place in the two-star 1.45m Grand Prix.

The class saw 59 combinations go to post, with 10 of them jumping a clear first round to make it through to the timed decider. Five completed double clear rounds, with Allen clocking the fastest time of 39.32 seconds to take the win. Belgium’s Sacha Beghuin was next best with Livollette in 39.73 for second place, with Brazil’s Felipe Amaral in third in 39.87. Allen took home the winner’s prize of €7,500.

Multiple wins

The two-star fixture at Azelhof in Lier, Belgium was held last weekend, where Irish riders secured multiple wins. Thursday’s two-star 1.40m speed class had a large start list of 103 that required it to be divided, with the second division being won by Daniel Fitzgerald riding Obsession DV, when they came out best of the 51 starters, with a clear round in 59.32 seconds. This was almost three seconds faster than their nearest challenger, Katharina Offel (GER) on Baloutina HB, who finished in 62.18.

Darragh Kenny won Friday’s two-star 1.40m two-phase class riding Dresden Z, with a double clear round in a phase two time of 27.34.

Top spot

Fitzgerald then claimed the top spot in the day’s two-star 1.45m Longines Ranking jump-off class on board Deparino B, when double clear in a jump-off time of 35.45.

Saturday’s one-star 1.10m speed class saw an eighth-place finish for Damien Doyle riding Pamuk BZ.

Fitzgerald finished top of the podium again in the 56-strong two-star 1.40m final jump-off class on Saturday with Obsession DV, with a double clear round in a time of 32.08, more than a second and a half ahead of runner-up Logan Fiechter (NED) on Comme Elle, who stopped the clock in 33.86. Harry Allen and Everest UP placed ninth in the class in 36.91.
