CARLA Williamson followed up her impressive win in the CCI1*-Intro at Millstreet with another on Tuesday in Section A of the Junior/Young Rider class at Tullylish, venue for the first leg of the 2025 Young Eventhorse Series.
Williamson’s mount here was her mother Janet’s Irish Sport Horse gelding Powers (303.5 points), a seven-year-old Colandro bay who had finished 21st of 48 in the CCI2*-L at Millstreet. Bred in Co Louth by Eileen Duggan and Brendan Hearty, the winner is out of the Cardano mare Wannadou.
The second qualifying ticket went to Tykillen Jazz (290) who finished third under owner/rider Myah McLean. Cousin Joe (293.5), who finished second, wasn’t overlooked for any sinister reason but, in fact, his partner on Tuesday, Matthew Kelly, asked that this result be ignored as the ride really belongs to his sister Ciara and it would be better if she got to qualify the horse herself.
On board the newcomer Tullabeg Fernando, Matthew finished down the field in Section B where the honours, and Dublin qualifying ticket, went to the well-established partnership of Ciara O’Connor and Ashwood Rio (306.5) who have been enjoying an excellent season on the eventing circuit.
The six-year-old ISH gelding by Dignified van’t Zorgvliet is owned by the rider’s aunt Sharon O’Connor who bred the bay out of her Ramiro B mare Pikeur.
The far less experienced Chloe Walsh qualified for Dublin in second place on Enniskerry Masterpiece, another six-year-old ISH gelding.
The second Young Eventhorse Series qualifier takes place next Tuesday at Scarteen.
