THE Kilkenny International Sporthorses’ team have their string in fine order at present, be it for show jumping, arena eventing or, as it’s termed, proper eventing such as at Frankfort Stud on Sunday.
Having finished a close-up second with Borris Cornet Coole in the Overlander EI110, where, with 1.2 show jumping time penalties, he was also fifth on Mr Springmount, John Tilley landed the Foran Equine EI90 with the five-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Playboy KK (Womanizer - Coevers Dock, by Coevers Diamond Boy).
In a low-scoring phase, Tilley and the bay, who was making his affiliated debut, completed on their Sarah Cullen-awarded dressage mark of 20 penalties while their teammates, Anna Stillwell and the 2021 ISH mare Goldburgs Sister Act, who led after the flat work phase but had a fence down show jumping on her first EI start, placed third on 22.8.
The Kilkenny International pair were split by Kate Jordan, who was double clear within the time on another newcomer, the seven-year-old unraced thoroughbred gelding Serene Ace (22.3). Two of the 18 starters were eliminated early on the cross-country course following three refusals apiece.
There was one elimination, for omitting a cross-country fence, in the 10-strong Tony Walker Photography EI80 where, with the only double clear inside the time, the honours went to Freya Fitzgerald, a member of the Island Branch of the Irish Pony Club, and the 12-year-old grey gelding Aille Sinioia Scooby (25 penalties).
