ONLY two combinations contested the EI115 (Open) at Clyda, with Penwhistle (ISH)(TIH) and Neilus O’Donoghue taking the spoils, ahead of Rock Eclipse (ISH) and Michael Ryan. O’Donoghue was second after dressage on 34.1 to which he added four show jumping penalties to finish on 38.1. This nine-year-old son of Island Commander (USA)(TB), bred by Edward Ryan, had his last outing in the Connolly’s Red Mills CCI3*-S, where he finished 15th and, before that, he was third in the EI115 (Open) at Hillcrest.

Ryan opened his account on 31.6, but 12.8 cross-country time penalties saw him finish on 44.4. Eleven-year-old Rock Eclipse is by Chinook Eclipse (USA)(TB), was bred by Walter Coady and is owned by Patricia Ryan.

In the EI115 (J), Carla Williamson and Powers (ISH) had an uncontested win on their first phase penalty score of 26.1. Powers, an eight-year-old gelding by Colandro (HOLST), was bred by Eileen Duggan and Brendan Hearty and is owned by Janet Williamson. This was the pair’s third eventing win of the season, having won the TRM Ireland CCI3*-S at Ballindenisk International and the EI115 at Tyrella 2.

“We’re delighted with Powers, it was a great, strong track with lovely going, as it always is at Clyda. He will go to Aston le Walls in July for a 3*-S and then back to Millstreet for the last Junior trial, all being well. Millstreet will no doubt be a fantastic event, with the U25 World Championships taking place,” proud mum Janet Williamson said.

The Mervue Equine EI115 class was better populated with eight runners, the best of these on the day being Janie Cairns and Zambia Touch (ISH), who finished on their dressage score of 31.8.

This eight-year-old by Zambia (ISH) was bred by Gilbert Fletcher and is owned by Mark Emerson and the result was the pair’s first Eventing Ireland win together.

Michael Ryan was runner-up here again, with his own JVK Eclipse (ISH)(TIH), when adding four show jumping and 5.2 cross-country penalties to their class-leading dressage score of 28.6 penalties. This 10-year-old gelding is by Chinook Eclipse (USA) (TB) and was bred by John Keane and Valerie Lyons. Emily Brooks and Ardagh Mayday (ISH) were third after adding four show jumping penalties to a dressage score of 34.5. This 10-year-old mare is by OBOS Quality 004, was bred by Tom Whyte and is owned by Christine Brooks.

Only three of six entrants completed the EI110 (Open), with A Classic Sportsfield (ISH) and Daniel Meagher coming out on top by leaving their dressage score of 35.8 intact. Owned by James D Meagher, this 12-year-old gelding is by Mermus R (KWPN) and was bred by Siobhan McGuinness and Clyda was the pair’s first outing of the year.

Michael Ryan eventually struck gold in the 27-runner Mervue Equine EI110, with his own The Domino Effect, when he finished on a dressage score of 31.5. This eight-year-old gelding by Nazar (IRE) (TB), bred by John Moore, then went on to place third in the EI110 A at Ballindenisk on Wednesday.

Jill Revill and the Michael Kelly-bred Lislan Chacfly (ISH by Chacfly PS) were second, also having nothing to add to a first phase score of 32.3. This was the pair’s fourth EI outing. Patrick Whelan and Rigoletto (SHB) were third on 33.8, adding four jumping penalties to a dressage score of 29.8. This six-year-old by Verdi (KWPN) and owned by Sharon Power has had three top-four finishes from three outings this season.

Of only two runners in the EI110 (J), Oisin Phelan and Killahara Ailbhe (ISH) took the red, adding four show jumping penalties to a dressage score of 31.5. This seven-year-old gelding by Boherdeal Clover and bred by Emma Kirwan has already won twice this year at this level, with Phelan having scored at Lisgarvan House and Tyrella 3.

Hannah Goold had an uncontested win in the EI110 (P) with Paddys Best, adding four show jumping penalties to a dressage score of 33.5. This pair had a phenomenal 2025 and this season is looking good too - they have been inside the top 10 in all eight of their outings, two being firsts and two being seconds. The EI110 (Amateur) went to Lorna Murphy and TikTok Kiwi (ISH by Vivant Van De Heffinck (BWP)), who finished on 54.6.

At EI100 level, the numbers were improved and, of 18 runners, Abby Coakley and Stellor Endevour came out on top on their first phase score of 25.8. This six-year-old gelding by Colandro (HOLST) is owned and was bred by Sarah Ennis and this was the pair’s second win of the season. Edie Murray-Hayden and Carraroe Coilin (CP by Caipín an tSonais) were second on an untouched 27.8 and Patrick Whelan had another podium placing, this time with Tomgar Valour (ISH by Imnotafraid Fortuna (KWPN)) for third on 28.5.

The EI100 (J) went to Tomoka Spots and Keira Crowther, who finished on an impressive dressage penalty score of 24.0, while the EI100 (P) went to Glenrock Lisa (CP by Glenrock Robyn), ridden by Gloria Queally on a dressage penalty score of 28.0. The EI100 (Amateur) was won by Denis Coakley and Rossmount Point (ISH, TIH by Pointilliste) on their first phase score of 27.0.
