AINE Phelan recorded her first win under Eventing Ireland rules when she claimed the 17-runner Star Fuels EI100 (Amateur) riding Daisy Trayford’s Knockalough Lagans. Margins were tight at the top of the leaderboard here, and this combination added no further penalties to their dressage score of 32.8 to finish only fractionally ahead of runners-up Sarah Hayes-Hickey and Flame of the West (32.9). Joan Sinnott and Newtown Wilson took third on 33.5. Laurene Yviquel and MHS Baracouda was best of the two combinations in the EI110 (Amateur).
Having finished second on their two most recent runs at the level, Elaine Hatton and Rising Crest scored a well-deserved win in the EI90 (Amateur) class on 28.3. Those at the business end of the leaderboard here made light work of the jumping phases, and the final placings were dictated by the standings after dressage. Ciara Kelly and Cousin Joe took second place on 29.5, while Nutriscience representative Faith Morris and Lachstone Abbey were third on 30.8.
The second leg of the Nutriscience Equine AIRC Pathway Series for riding club members also took place at Grove, and the five combinations who contested the class at EI100 level found the cross-country phase to be challenging. Kate Fortune emerged best of them riding the Van Gogh-sired five-year-old Gilinalinde, despite adding 20 penalties for a refusal at fence seven to her dressage score of 29.8. Contrastingly, the winners of the EI90 level equivalent, Stephanie Cunningham and Ballymacadam BFL Lily, maintained a clean sheet throughout the jumping phases to finish on their dressage score of 31.8.
