IVEAGH Pony Club member Una McClelland recorded her first Eventing Ireland success last Saturday at Tullymurry, where she landed the EI100 (J) with her mother Claire’s Irish Sport Horse mare Murlough Beach.

A very proficient tetrathlete, McClelland and the six-year-old Beach Ball bay saw off nine rivals when completing on their winning dressage mark of 26.8. The only other combination awarded a sub-30 penalty mark by Joanne Cairns was Tilley Tumility and Rock Impulse (28) who, too, were home clear within the time in the jumping phases.

Being out of the Lougherne Cappuchino mare Lanmore, Murlough Beach is a full-brother to the Wills Oakden-ridden Mile High (CCI3*-S). Mentioned elsewhere, Robyn Rice finished third here, on her dressage score (32), with the 14-year-old Connemara mare Holiday Kruising.

On this occasion, a pole down show jumping and 12 cross-country time penalties mattered little to Annabelle Dunne, as she was the sole starter in the EI110 (J) with her mother Helen’s seven-year-old skewbald gelding HFS Rock Shandy.

There were only five runners in the EI100 (P). Bidding to bring up a four-timer, Victoria Grieves was eliminated in the show jumping phase on Twister D’Euro, who had been lying second on 27.8, while Éabha White, who won the dressage phase with Carrickford Fast Boy (27.3), picked up 12 show jumping penalties and then retired across the country.

Charlie Watson was then left in front with her grandfather Mervyn Gibson’s Connemara mare Leamore Girl, a nine-year-old dun by Classiebawn Hughs Promise. Being a second over the time across the country didn’t affect the second-place finish of Lucy Ferris on Connaght Curlew (39.7).

On just her second start of the season with the grey, Ana Goodrich recorded a pillar-to-post success in the seven-strong EI90 (P) on board her mother Gemma’s ISH gelding Broadleas Chase (24.3), an 11-year-old son of Moores Clover. The home-based Darcy Turley also completed on her dressage score to place second with Budore Mystic Legend (29.3).
