ELEVEN combinations contested the Treo Eile thoroughbred to competition horse class on Tuesday at Wexford Equestrian, where the jumping phases were not judged but penalties could be picked up, as they were by more than half the field.

Local rider Kate Jordan led throughout on her mother Emer’s Serene Ace (22.2 penalties), an unraced gelding by Sandmason out of Claire Keegan’s Definite Article mare Rosies Rocket. The seven-year-old was a €33,000 purchase by Monbeg Stables at the 2022 Goffs Land Rover Sale.

Jordan has given Serene Ace two runs under Eventing Ireland rules this year. First time out, in an 18-runner EI90 class at Frankfort Stud late last month, they finished second but, unfortunately, they were eliminated early on the cross-country course in the Treo Eile-sponsored EI100 class for thoroughbreds at Lisgarvan House last Sunday.

Amy Griffith was always lying second (23.8) with the five-year-old Vadamos mare Shes For Luck, who had five runs in point-to-point maidens in the spring of last year when trained locally by Johnny Berry. Cathal Daniels didn’t have the best of days with Selkie at Lisgarvan House last Sunday, especially in the show jumping phase, so he would have been pleased that the once-raced Valirann mare completed on her dressage score here (28.5) to finish third.
