WHILE male riders dominated the higher-graded classes at Hazeldene (1) last Saturday, they hardly got a look-in down the levels.

In the restricted EI100 classes, the reigning Amateur champions, Samantha Dale and her Irish Sport Horse mare Threeseas, a 14-year-old daughter of Ars Vivendi, were a second over the time across the country but, on 21.7 penalties, still held off their 15 rivals. The only combination to complete on their dressage score were Aimee Webb and Imperial Matriach (24.8) who finished fourth.

Maeve Deverell (15) has been a regular starter in Northern Region events this season and the Co Westmeath rider followed up her Vesey Lodge success despite lowering one of the coloured poles in the EI100 (J) with Annaharvey Dunowen (28.5), her father Sam’s 12-year-old ISH gelding by Radolin. Robyn Rice recorded the only double clear inside the time to finish second on the Connemara mare Holiday Kruising (32.8).

All six combinations accrued jumping penalties in the EI100 (P) where two Connemaras topped the final leaderboard. Bushmills’ Gracie Thompson-Logan claimed the honours on her sister Katie Thompson’s seven-year-old Fairyhill Hawk mare Fiddain Dash (30.5) with Sarah Pettit placing second on the 14-year-old Joyces Cuckoo gelding Ballyerk Black Beauty (32.3).
