NIAMH Verkade and Michael Ryan’s The Outlaw ran out the winners of the EI110(J) at Kilguilkey on their debut at the level, despite posting the slowest cross-country time in the five-runner class. Adding 13.2 time penalties to their dressage score of 28, they finished on 41.2, comfortably clear of runners-up Gilby Monaghan and A Touch OF Frost on 43.3. Dressage leaders Laragh Byrne and LA Saurian Cavalier, also first timers at the level, finished in eventual third after incurring 12 faults in the show jumping arena.

Grace Murphy scored her first win under Eventing Ireland rules, when she led from pillar to post in the EI100(J) riding KEC Arctic Maxi, an eight-year-old mare by KEC Maximum Joe. This combination finished on their dressage score of 28.8, as did second-placed Megan Adams and Corranvale Arabella (30.5). Having initially sat in second, Lilymai Walsh dropped to third with the Irish Draught Chapel Hill Rose after finishing five seconds over the optimum time in the final phase for an eventual score of 32.3.

Willow O’Connor made her first run at EI110(P) level with Barnaboy Oonagh a winning one at Kilguilkey, when she climbed from second after dressage to the top spot with the traditionally-bred six-year-old pony, courtesy of a clear round in the show jumping phase. First phase leaders Lucy Ferris and Connaght Curlew swapped places with O’Connor when they left three poles on the floor in the show jumping arena, although they were slightly faster across the country.

O’Connor also picked up a sixth with Tullaree Poppiholla in the EI100(P), which was won by Sofia Ball and the Irish Sport Pony Glencroft Shadow Catcher on a score of 26.3. The top four combinations in this class all posted double clears in the jumping phases, so dressage scores determined the final placings and Aerin Tabb was a close second with Cahergal Theo on 27. Little separated the next three placings, who all finished within half a mark of each other, with Muireann Tooher the best of them on Slieve Rushen Don (36.3).

Eliza Wardell and Kinamara Bright Star took fourth on 36.5, while Saoirse Carty was fifth riding Culmore Apple Jack on 36.8.
