DUNBOYNE’s Sarah Ennis won two classes at the George Mernagh Tattersalls Horse Trials last Sunday, the double being highlighted by her all-the-way success in the George Mernagh EI110 for six-year-olds.

Riding PJ Hegarty’s home-bred Irish Sport Horse mare Fenyas Email (Jaguar Mail - Fenyas Elegance, by Ricardo Z), Ennis headed dressage judge Michael Moore’s leaderboard on 27.3. She then recorded one of the fastest cross-country rounds (5.2 penalties), before show jumping clear for a total of 32.5.

With the addition of four and 2.4 time penalties over the fixed fences, John Tilley and Elizabeth Power finished second and third respectively on the Castlefield Cornet gelding Borris Cornet Coole (35) and the Quality Time mare Belline Kilbunny Virtue (37.4).

Ennis completed her double in Section A of the Succeed Equine EI100 where, despite the addition of 2.8 cross-country time penalties for a total of 29.1, she also recorded a pillar-to-post success on Gerald Kilbride’s Kwish Arlow Cruise (Loch Cruise - Kennystown Cross, by Tabasco Van Erpekom), who was bringing up a hat-trick on his third start.

Sara Lundkvist finished second (33.4) of the 21 competitive runners on the five-year-old ISH gelding Sportsfield Cool As Ice who, on his second outing under EI rules, picked up 6.4 cross-country time penalties.

Co Kildare’s Alyssa O’Neill, who finished fourth in the EI115 on DS Candescent and third in the EI110 with Dermish Coney, recorded a deserved win in Section B on her six-year-old ISH gelding Knockalla (A Quidam M - Little Miss Red, by Mermus R).

The Colm Doherty-bred chesnut, who finished on a total of 26.2, was a second over the time across the country, while the Caoimhe Foley-ridden Ballynahia Hights, who filled the runner-up slot, was two seconds over for a completion score of 30.3 in this 21-runner class.

Co Wexford’s Joanne Corish, who had two rides in the class, recorded the only double clear inside the time to win the 12-runner Treo Eile EI100 for thoroughbreds on her fourth-placed dressage score (29.5) with Ciara Power’s House Mason (Sandmason - House Native, by Overbury).

Alice Copithorne led the 15-runner EI90 after dressage with Marian Slattery’s Traditional ISH mare Elegant Emilia (20), but dropped to second on the five-year-old home-bred EI newcomer with the addition of 5.2 cross-country time penalties.

Moving up a place to claim her first win since leaving the pony ranks was fellow Co Cork rider Beth Coveney, who picked up four penalties on the final leg with her mother Ruth Furney’s seven-year-old ISH gelding Ballinrobe (Sligo Candy Boy - Silvano Times, by Silvano).
