IN the junior ranks, it was a standout day for Maeve Deverell and the home-bred Annaharvey Dunowen (ISH by Radolin), who delivered a near-perfect performance to take top honours in the EI110 (J) at Ballindenisk 3. Deverell posted the best dressage score of the day with 24.8, and maintained that lead throughout to claim what was her fourth win this season at this level.

Following in second was Molly O’Connor, this time riding Dr Sarah Hughes’ Alcatraz (KWPN). Their tidy dressage score of 28.5 kept them comfortably in the runner-up spot. Third place went to Kate A Walsh and Fernhill Copy Cat (KWPN), who posted a dressage score of 30.3 but picked up 0.4 time penalties in the show jumping to finish on 30.7.

“My mum Aisling broke him and did pure dressage but during Covid I started riding him and I’ve stolen him ever since,” Deverell said of her ‘labrador’ horse.

“We have a lot of his family, my dad Sam learned to ride on his grandmother. He’s always been my favourite, even when he was a foal I knew that I wanted him. We did pure dressage up until last season and went to the European Championships for children on horses. We started eventing last season and we haven’t stopped ever since.

“He’s currently on the dressage High Performance A squad for juniors so we’ll be able to keep chipping away at that, and we’ll see about going to a few internationals in the winter, hopefully moving up to two-star and see where that takes us.”

Gilby Monaghan and the consistent A Touch of Frost (ISH by Womanizer), owned by Rolline O’Callaghan, delivered a polished performance to take first place in the EI100 (J) on a solid dressage score of 30.3. This was another pair to improve on a second place finish at Clyda.

Just behind in second on 31.3 was Alice Curley aboard DSL Allegra (ISH), another combination to complete all three phases without penalties. Third place went to Ella Kidd and Coppenagh Otto, who posted the best dressage score of the class with 27.8. However, a rail down in show jumping added four faults, pushing their final score to 31.8.

Ponies

Suzie Cosgrove and Kilcoltrim Swift emerged victorious in the EI110 (P) and, despite a rail down in show jumping, finished on 33.8.

Second went to Tadgh O’Haire aboard Expat’s Fireworks, who posted a dressage score of 35.3 but added eight jumping faults in the final phase to complete on 43.3. In third place was Robyn Dempsey with Avalon Inis Sle (CP) on 61.3.

Jonty Purcell and the consistent FHS Felicity (ISH by Acambaro) claimed victory in the EI100 (P). Starting with a dressage score of 31.5, Purcell added just 0.8 time penalties in the cross-country phase to finish on 32.3.

Hot on their heels in second was Anna Boucher-Hayes riding Brambles Bartholomew, who delivered a completely penalty-free performance across all three phases to finish on 33.5.

Third place went to Abbey Ferris aboard Connaght Curlew (ISH), who started strongly with a best of class dressage score of 29.8 but a costly eight faults in show jumping saw them slip down the rankings to finish on 37.8.
