THE standout result among the youth classes at Flowerhill was Maeve Deverell’s win in the nine-runner EI110 (J) riding the versatile Annaharvey Dunowen.

Judge Danielle Carey awarded the combination a stellar dressage score of 19.5, and they added just 1.2 time penalties for finishing slightly over the optimum time cross-country to win by a margin of over seven penalties. Second here were Isla Coad and Lollypop PH, themselves winners twice already at this level this season, while Gilby Monahan and A Touch Of Frost were third on 33.

Laragh Byrne performed a similar feat to win the EI100 (J) with L.A. Saurian Cavalier, also by a wide margin on a low dressage score (24), with the addition of 1.2 time penalties. Second here were Robyn Dempsey and Lissyegan Cooley, while David Kiersey was third with the former ride of Felicity Ward, EPA Orlaith, on 32.8. The five-runner pony class at this level was won by the only sub-30 score among the five completions, which was earned by Katie McCarville and the Connemara pony Blackfort Melody.

Connemaras also came to the fore in both the EI90(P) and EI110(P) at Flowerhill, where the former class was won by Saoirse Carty riding Culmore Apple Jack. Gloria Queally scored a one-two in the latter, winning with the experienced Longwood Laura on a total score of 37. Her runner-up, on 41, was Rachel Brew’s Caraun Ferdy.

A single mark separated first and second in the EI110 (Amateur) class, where both competitors maintained clean sheets to finish on their dressage scores. The class was won by Sarah Hayes-Hickey riding Flame of the West, while Alannah Kelly and Milshogue Bailey took second. Often seen making presentations at prizegivings through her marketing role with Nutriscience Equine, it was Faith Morris’s turn to stand on top of the podium in the EI90 (Amateur). She won this convincingly on her leading dressage score of 25.8 with Lachstone Abbey, ahead of Tara Hedderman riding Lookout Khlaon on 31.8.

Rolline O’Callaghan claimed her second consecutive win aboard Splendid B in the 13-runner EI100 (Amateur). Her first-phase score of 24 was good enough to allow her maintain her lead despite the addition of four faults in the show jumping arena, ahead of Ailbhe McGrath and Bridgemans Mojito, second on 29.3.

Siobhan Carroll’s Sinatra’s Encore suffered a fall between fences in the show jumping phase of this class and, while vets attended to the horse immediately, his injury ultimately proved fatal.
