CATHAL Daniels dominated in the largest class at Kilguilkey, when he finished first, second and fourth of the 26 runners in the EI110. All bar one of the top six combinations maintained clean sheets throughout the jumping phases, and that one happened to be dressage leaders, Nicky Roncoroni and Carrigshawn Ebony.

The 1.6 show jumping time penalties they added to their first phase score of 29.8 were enough to open the door for Daniels, while still enabling them to stay ahead of his own fourth-placed ride, CDS Maple Syrup (32).

Daniel’s win came courtesy of his own Queen Of Nosa Z, who had previously finished second on two of her three runs at national level this year. A nine-year-old mare by the Belgian sire Quasimodo VD Molendreef, she completed on her dressage score of 30.8. Ironically, it was the injured Jessica O’Driscoll’s Quibery mare Number One who finished second for Daniels, only 0.2 penalties adrift. This six-year-old improved upon and moved up a level from her debut run at Grove, where she finished third at EI100 level.
