THE EI110 (Open) at Frankfort (5) on Sunday saw Oleana Cowan clinch victory on her second outing with Newferry Aga Kann (ISH), a former ride of Steven Smith. The pair delivered a polished performance, finishing on a score of 30.9, after adding just 0.4 time penalties in an otherwise foot-perfect round. This nine-year-old gelding, owned by Sian Keary, is by Kannan and was bred by Herbie Walker.

Runner-up honours went to Patrick Whelan with MBF Corbeagh (Quidam Junior I), who impressed across the phases but dropped behind on a total of 37.8 following a single show jumping error.

Meanwhile, Eliza Jane Queally guided Fernhill Inspector (Tinaranas Inspector) into third. Despite a promising start, their round unravelled on the cross-country, where refusals and time faults pushed their finishing score to 72.5.

The EI110 class produced a thrilling contest, with the top four combinations separated by fewer than three marks and all finishing on their dressage scores. Emma Egan emerged victorious aboard the classy Rusheen Quality (ISH), securing the win on a score of 30.8. Bred by Joseph Grace, this six-year-old by Lagans OBOS Quality only began his eventing career last August at EI90 level. Close behind in second once more was Patrick Whelan with SHL Cantbetamed (Luidam), completing just 0.2 marks adrift on 31.0, while Ian Cassells and Ballyneety Quality Cloverquin (ISH) were equally impressive to take third on 32.0.

A fault-free display from Aoife Madigan and Slanduff Bell X1 (ISH) ensured a competitive fourth place on 33.5. The only penalties among the front-runners came from Joanne Corish’s Sir Diamant (ISH), who lowered a rail and collected time to finish on 47.7. For Patrick Whelan’s Lakelands Woody (ISH), cross-country proved costly, with jumping and time penalties leaving them sixth on 76.9.

Consistency proved key in the tightly-fought EI110 (J), where Sarah Smullen rode a composed and professional round with Avalon Romulus (Cointreau Van De Withoeve) to claim victory for the second time this season on a score of 34.2, their only blemish a fraction of a time penalty in the show jumping.

Just behind, Skyla Nally and Jaxlexi delivered flawless jumping phases to finish second on 34.5, while Kirstyn Reel partnered Lisdara Amour into third, closing on 43.0 after adding only minor time penalties in the cross-country.

Carolina Condon and Club Orange (ISH) were close on their heels, a single rail in the show jumping leaving them fourth on 44.0. Rounding out the placings, Izzy Barrett with Oakfield Cooley (ISH) and David Kiely aboard SCS Ballycoskerry Cardento (ISH) both showed promise, but were hampered by penalties in the jumping phases, finishing fifth and sixth respectively.

Uncontested wins went to Hannah Goold and Paddys Best in the EI110 (P) and to Katy Croke and (Skylow) in the EI110 (Amateur).

EI100 classes

In the EI100 class, the top six combinations all finished on exceptionally competitive scores. Victory went to John Tilley, who piloted the Kilkenny International-owned five-year-old Classicals Jerpoint Will (Jerpoint Mist) to a decisive win on 21.8, producing one of the standout performances of the day. Tilley also filled third spot, this time with Borris Cornet Coole (Castlefield Cornet), finishing on his second EI outing on his dressage score of 27.8 to underline his dominance in the class. While this was old Classicals Jerpoint Will’s first EI outing, he started his career as a four-year-old by winning the Millstreet Burghley Young Event Horse Qualifier, finishing 17th in the final, and gave a good showing in the five-year-old young event horse class at Dublin this year finishing 10th in a hot division.

Second place was secured by Amanda Goldsbury on her Frankfort 4 and Loughanmore winner Designed at Cooley (Sligo Candy Boy), her strong dressage mark of 23.3 only marred by a single show jumping rail leaving them on 27.3.

Ian Cassells and Bellscross Tysons Star (ISH) weren’t far behind, slotting into fourth with a tidy finish on 29.3, while Patrick Whelan with Jack Boss CK (ISH) (33.5) and Amelia McCarthy aboard The Doctors Touch (ISH) (34.5) completed the top six after fault-free jumping displays.

Victory in the junior division went to Isla Coad with Lollypop PH (Cormint), their strong dressage mark of 25.0 giving them the edge despite a single rail in the show jumping, finishing on 29.0.

Chloe Walsh and Enniskerry Masterpiece were close behind in second, producing a clear across all phases to finish on 31.3, while third place went to Cora Finn with Shakespeares Romeo Montague, equally fault-free to close on 32.8.

A composed round from Zara McCarthy and MGH Rioja saw them settle for fourth after a minor cross-country time fault left them on 35.7. Abaigh Pollock and Graces Blue Diamond (ID) (38.0) and Sophie Swain aboard Fabia HSH (ISH) (40.3) completed the placings after tidy efforts in a competitive class.

The EI100 pony division produced some excellent performances, with Isla Coad scoring her second win of the day and her third win in a row with Cornhill Storm (CP by Murvey Ronan). The pair delivered a stylish performance to finish on their dressage score of 29.3.

Just behind, Jessica Coveney guided Coppenagh Russel into second. Their impressive dressage score of 25.8 left them in the hunt, but a show jumping rail dropped them narrowly to 29.8.

Third place went to Hogan Byrne riding AC Remus, also undone by a rail in the show jumping phase to complete on 31.5.
