WITH many of the country’s youth riders engaged elsewhere last weekend, there were just three entries for Saturday’s EI110 (J) at Loughanmore.

Rosie Coad held a narrow lead after dressage on Barberton, but had two fences down in the show jumping arena to drop to second (37.3). Despite the addition of 4.8 show jumping penalties, Co Kildare’s Alice Curley moved up a place to claim the honours on 34.6 with her mother Jenny’s 13-year-old Mick Kearney-bred Irish Sport Horse mare EE Parlanti Cruise (Ringfort Cruise - Drumri Lady, by Drumri).

Co Waterford’s David Kiely picked up 1.2 cross-country time penalties on his way to a narrow victory in the 15-runner EI100 (J) on Crissa Gillette’s EPA Orlaith (27.7), an eight-year-old Traditional Irish mare by Jackaroo, who was bred by Oliver Young out of Midnight Hazel, by Puissance.

Ana Goodrich jumped a double clear inside the time to finish second with Lisnamuck What A Cracker (28), ahead of the dressage winners, Tilley Tumilty and Rock Impulse, who lowered one of the coloured poles en route to a total of 29.

Saoirse Carty recorded her third straight EI100 (P) win of the season when completing a Loughanmore double on her Jean Mitchell-awarded dressage score (27.8) with her mother Ciara’s Connemara gelding Culmore Apple Jack (Doonard Lad - Culmore Noeleen, by Magherafadda Lad). Representing the Co Offaly Branch, Carty and the six-year-old dun had finished third in their Intermediate arena at the previous weekend’s Connolly’s Red Mills/Irish Pony Club eventing championships in Tattersalls Ireland.

In the five-runner EI90 (P), Co Down’s Darcy Turley picked up four show jumping penalties and 5.2 for time across the country on her way to a seventh win of the season with her mother Sarah’s 19-year-old Welsh gelding Budore Mystic Legend (30.7), the Joe Cleland-bred son of Llanveynoe Blaze of Glory. Ella Rose Sands finished second on her dressage score with Drumlane Dick (33.3).
