THE TRM Nutrition CCI3*-S provided us with an all-Irish, all-female podium, with 18-year-old Carla Williamson taking the win on her mother Janet’s eight-year-old Powers (ISH).
Having had an early win in the season at Tyrella 2, Williamson and Powers (ISH) started their week off scoring 32.2 penalties from the Ground Jury of Marie Hennessy (IRL) and Faith Ponsonby (IRL), leaving them in 16th place after the first phase.
Their climb up the leaderboard over the weekend was due to being one of only four competitors to finish on their dressage score. Sitting just outside the top 10 after the first phase, Williamson and Powers (ISH) kept a clean sheet to rise to the top and take the win.
“I wasn’t expecting to win this week, but he was really good all weekend, so I’m really pleased,” commented a delighted Carla Williamson.
“The plan is to work towards Millstreet now, so fingers crossed that things keep going well.” Amelia McCarthy was another to finish on her dressage score of 32.4 penalties with Finsceal Endeavour (ISH), her partner at the 2025 Young Rider Europeans in Strezgom where they finished 25th individually.
Molly O’Neill and her own Muckridge Quick Step (ISH), completed the podium on a score of 33.6 penalties.
Patrick Whelan and Sportsfield Cooper (ISH) were another combination to use their jumping abilities to climb the leaderboard after their first phase score of 33.8 penalties left them middle of the table.
After two faultless jumping rounds they ended up in fourth place.
Patrick Lam (HKG) and Jockey Club Highdown March were overnight third after dressage, but their 5.2 time penalties dropped them down a few places to finish in fifth place.
Oleana Cowen, another Irish young rider, and her mother Amaya’s RCA Royal Mist were just one second over the optimum time on the cross-country to finish on 34.1 penalties in sixth place.
Treo Eile’s award for the Highest-Placed Thoroughbred over the weekend went to Ireland’s Sam Watson and Nominator (TB) (GER), who finished in seventh place.
