LEILA Barker and Fionn (ISH) topped a competitive EI100 field at Frankfort Stud (3), finishing on their dressage score of 30.0 after faultless performances across all phases. This was the second win from as many outings for this son of Orestus (KWPN) who also won on his Eventing Ireland debut with Barker at Grove. This promising six-year-old was bred and is owned by Sarah McCullagh.
Hot on their heels was Heidi Hamilton riding Mount Atlas (ISH), finishing just a point behind on 31.0 after a clean jumping phase sweep.
This is the fourth top-three finish in a row from this eight-year-old son of Nigrasine (TB) who just began his Eventing Ireland career this season.
Third place went to seasoned competitor Patrick Whelan, this time aboard Olivier (KWPN by Just Wimphof) on what was the six-year-old’s third attempt under EI rules, the first being a win at EI90 level. A strong start with a joint leading dressage score of 30.0 was dampened slightly by four penalties in show jumping, pushing them to a total of 34.0 overall.
Whelan also took fourth place on his second mount, Ballyvee Billy the Barnboy (ISH), who performed steadily throughout and completed on his dressage score of 34.8. This five-year-old by O.B.O.S Quality 004 also won at EI90 level earlier this season on what was his first EI outing. Fifth place was claimed by Charlie Boardman and Belline Candy Vivendi (ISH by Sligo Candy Boy). Although they too matched the leading dressage score of 30.0, they incurred four show jumping penalties and two cross-country time penalties, finishing on 36.0. Chanelle Martin and Heathermore Licotime (by Quality Time (HOLST)) rounded out the top six on 42.0.
In the tightly contested EI100 (J) class, it was David Keatley and The Kings Ransom (ISH) who emerged at the top of the leaderboard, finishing on 27.7. Keatley produced the leading dressage score of 23.3 and, although they picked up 4.4 time penalties on cross-country, their dominant dressage gave them just enough breathing room to hold onto first place. This was Keatley’s first EI outing aboard this nine-year-old son of Kings Master, who was previously campaigned by Hannah Groves and Steven Smith.
Pushing them all the way was Arabella Whelehan riding Blackhill Border Fox (by Ballymore Paprika (CP)), who delivered a clean sweep across all phases to finish on 28.0. Oliver O’Connor and Ballygriffin Coolridge (ISH by Chacoa (HOLST)) completed the top three on their first EI outing together on their dressage score of 31.8.
Abbey Ferris and Connaght Curlew (ISH by Easy Living) won the EI100 (P), finishing on their leading dressage score of 33.8. This was the pair’s first win in what is the pony’s first EI season, with five top five finishes from five outings already in the bag. Close behind was Annabelle Dunne with HFS Rock Shandy, who also finished on a first-phase score of 34.0. Third place went to Niamh Verkade on Carramore Master (CP by Rathcoona Cove) when their dressage score of 38.3 held steady.
In the EI100 (Amateur) ranks, the clear winners were Lucy Cruising (ISH) ridden by Marlieze Krielaart when they had nothing to add to their leading dressage score of 31.3.
