TIPPERARY’s Tom Wachman scored his first international victory of the Gallagher Dublin Horse Show last Saturday when landing the feature CSIO5* Gallagher Dublin Stakes with Do It Easy, the horse he guided to two European Young Rider silver medals just two weeks’ before Dublin.

Twelve of the starting 41 combinations made it through to the jump-off while four combinations missed out with just a single time fault – including Ireland’s Commdt Geoff Curran (Hawthornhill) and Daniel Coyle (Gisborne VDL).

First into the ring against the clock, USA’s Natalie Dean, a member of the team who lifted the Aga Khan on Friday, set the benchmark with another clear round in 37.61 seconds aboard Pedro van de Barlebuis but eventually had to settle for second place when her lead was overtaken by Wachman with the Coolmore Showjumping-owned 13-year-old gelding Do It Easy in 37.02 seconds. They earned the top prize of €17,040.

Laura Kraut took third place with Una Mariposa (39.61) and the only other clear round against the clock came from France’s Charlotte Leoni and Miss Marie Van’t Winnenhof (42.34). Germany’s Richard Vogel, who won the earlier class, had the fastest time by almost two seconds with Phenyo van het Keysesbos but four faults saw them in fifth place.

Wachman (20) was delighted to win in front of his home crowd and family. “He’s an amazing horse. He’s so consistent and I’m just delighted it came off. Since he came home from America, he was third in the Grand Prix in La Touquet then he went to Rome and was placed the first day and he won the equivalent of that class. He went to the Europeans and was clear all week; then he was third here the first day here and won that class. So, he’s been he’s been amazing for me, I am lucky to have him.

“The whole family is here. I love this show. It’s my favourite show of the year. It’s the best crowd and I’m just grateful to compete here, and then when you win, it’s very special.”
